    Group A

This was an insanely tough Group coming into this Round, with all 3 of the top seeds from the Round 3 all drawn together, along with a Group R/Up from that Round. And so it would prove, with just 6 points the difference between the top spot and elimination.

Should also be noted that this was the only Group where noone elected to take on a handicap. Will anyone regret that decision? We'll find out.

Claiming top spot on 34 was...

    Congratulations!

With a little help from their friend, BB King, it must be said.

    Great track though! :50:

And joining them safely through to the Final 9 is...

    36 points.

Congrats to U2 & The Jam. Which means that The Cure & Iron Maiden are battling it out for the one remaining spot, and one will be th next to be eliminated.

This Group turned out to be also quite tough, with 1 stand out song and the others battling for survival. And as such will reveal the stand out artist here, and leave the mystery for the remains to the next post.

    You're welcome. :bbpd:

Anyhow, there were 2 artists going into this Group carrying a points penalty. INXS with a +1 & the Rolling Stones with a +2.

Did it make a difference? Guess will need to stay tuned in to see.

For now, however, it is time to reveal who delivered the stand out song of the Group, and indeed, scoring the lowest across all 3 Groups (26). It was...

Well done though. Great track! :50:

This was another Group destined to go all the way to the Final vote. But in essence this was very much a battle of 2 divides.

Madonna's gamble to take such a huge penalty immediately would make it difficult for her to go for the top honours, and so it proved. But they were not the only one to decide to go into this Round, carrying a handicap, although REM's +1 was far more manageable. Would it make a difference?

Topping the Group with a score of 27 was...

    CONGRATS!

Proving that taking a penalty on may be worth it, if the song is good enough, But as numbers get fewer and the margin of error ever decreasing, the risk is ever there.

Joining them in the next round is...

Congrats to REM and Queen. Safely though to the Final 9.

The question is, who would be joining them?

    Group C Standings

    REM 1 1 1 2 3 1 1 1 - 4 1 2 - - 1 - 2 1 4 (26)
    Quen 2 3 2 1 1 2 3 2 - 2 2 1 - - 2 - 1 4 3 (31)

    REM +1 (Final Score = 27)

When we left off, U2 (with some help from BB King) did enough to caim top spot on 34, and the Jam (36) hot on their heels. That left Iron Maiden to duke it out, and it all came down to the last vote. Indeed, the artist eliminated here would have been comfortably safe in either of the other 2 Groups.

With 1 vote remaining the Cure and Iron Maiden stood equal on 37 points. But in a final score of

    39-40

    Congratulations...

Well deserved, Iron Maiden. Belter of a track!

Which means it is the end of the line for The Cure, who was... me.

Truth be told, I am somewhat relieved to have been eliminated at this point, not because of lack of material, (because there is plenty of that, and while not actively throwing the comp, wasn't exactly using their most popular/best known stuff), but I never felt comfortable in this contest as the host and participant.

I thank you all for your trust in me and would never fudge numbers (all of which will be posted at the end of the comp), and I always made sure to have made my song selection in advance (so not to compare with those was in competition with, etc) but at times it felt like being the referee of a football match I am playing in. Just it's never sat comfortably with me.

So now I can just host, so yay! :icon_mrgreen:

I'd been eyeing up stuff from * etc... but yeah, Primary, Forest, Charlotte Sometimes, Lets Go to Bed, Inbetween Days, Close To Me, Lullaby, Catch, Why Cant I Be You?, Night Like This, Fascination Street, Love Song, Friday, Im in Love, High, Boys Don't Cry etc etc, lol. To say the least had some options, haha.

And so, with the Pogues safely through, that means that 2 of the remaining 3 of INXS, Rolling Stones and The Smiths would also be progressing. But 3 into 2 does not go... even with these trying their best to make it, lol.

With INXS (+1) & Rolling Stones (+2) both coming into this contest carrying a handicap, would it make a difference?

Well, time to reveal what happened here.

And it was tight. Very tight.

In fact it was so tight that just 1 point seperated all 3 artists. Two would finish on 42 and the eliminated artist on 43. That's right.

    42 - 42 - 43

The second artist safely through to the next round is...

    Congrats!

By virtue of not carrying a penalty into the Round, and will make the 2 remaining, Rolling Stones & INXS, squirm a little longer.

Why? Because I'm a malevolent *... apparently! :bbpd:

This best of is in my top 10 albums of all time.Remember blasting it in a campsite at a festival and everyone walking by would stop for a while and ask who it was and comment how good it was.Very underrated band imo.
