He was very highly rated at one point.

A good season in League 1 could do wonders for him.

Desperately needed loan. While he's never looked convincing for us it's still pretty shocking that he found himself going from the verge of the Watford first team to playing in the lowland league every week. If he really is more of a defensive midfielder than a centre back then he should learn a lot from Broony.

Fleetwood Town defender Bosun Lawal has spoken to the club following his season-long loan move from Scottish Premiership champions Celtic FC.

Lawal - who has represented the Republic of Ireland from the Under-15s to Under-21s levels - is taking another step in his career as he joins Town on his first career loan move after impressing for Celtic B over the last two years.

With connections to Celtic and head coach Scott Brown, the young Irish international is excited to hit the ground running and help his new side get back to winning ways with Derby County at the weekend.

We caught up with the club's latest recruit, and here's what he had to say:

    On the move…

“Back in Glasgow, Scott Brown is a huge name, and I won’t lie in saying that he was a major factor in me coming down to Fleetwood on loan for the season. It was a tough decision, but I feel this is the right place for me to develop as a footballer.

“I think this is the right time for me to step up and play men’s football week in week out and show my potential to those at Celtic and here at Fleetwood.

“I have watched a couple of games and it was what I expected. You get games in this league where teams play rather directly and then some will want to play football and also it is very competitive. Some players in this league have played at a high level but I am ready for the task ahead.

“I am relishing the opportunity and that is what good for my development. I will get both aspects with the attacking side and also the defensive side and that bit of everything will help me develop to be a better player and these different games will help.”

On his experiences at a young age…

“Football is the only thing I’ve known since I was a little kid. Football runs through the family from my brothers all the way to my sisters. We are a very footballing family but from playing in Ireland, I then made the move to Watford for two years and then back up the border to Celtic and now I am here.

“It tough for a young footballer of 16-years to move over to England, especially being away from my family, but they were great and come over to support me whenever they could.

“The people I lived with in the digs in Watford were amazing and made me feel so welcome, it really helped me settle in but that is part of football, and those experiences make you the footballer you can be.

“Previous moves have helped me with this move to Fleetwood, and I have only been here a day and I feel settled already. It’s important to settle in as quickly as you can, and those experiences have helped me as I said."

On potentially making debut at Derby…

“It would be a crazy first game to be thrown into, however I am excited about the challenge ahead and hopefully the lads can go and get a result, get the win and make it a good day.

“Nothing phases me, mistakes happen and are part and parcel of football, so you take it as it comes and learn from it. I want to make every moment count whilst here. There’s a fine line but we just want to come here and win, and when you cross the white line on Saturday’s you make sure you go and win.”

Celtic are delighted to announce that Bosun Lawal has signed a contract extension until the summer of 2026.

After putting pen to paper, the defender will now go on a season-long loan to English League One side, Fleetwood Town, managed by former Celtic captain Scott Brown.

The Republic of Ireland Under-21 internationalist arrived at the Hoops in 2021 after spending a number of years in the Academy of English side, Watford.

Since his arrival in Glasgow, the 20-year-old has continued his development as part of the Celtic FC B squad, playing in competitions such as the Scottish Lowland League and the Premier League International Cup. He also helped Celtic lift the Glasgow Cup at Ibrox last campaign.

After impressing as part of the B squad, he was promoted to the first-team set-up and made his senior debut for the club earlier this year in the fourth round of the Scottish Cup against Greenock Morton.

More recently, he was part of the first-team squad for the pre-season tour of Portugal and Japan.

The promising defender will now head south of the border to spend the season on loan with Fleetwood, joining fellow Celtic team-mate Adam Montgomery at Highbury Stadium.

Is he playing centre mid for them? That’s his natural position.

I think that was his first game at cm for fleetwood. He was playing in a back 3 nearly every other game I checked. And yeah cm is where he got player of the year in watfords academy. Definitely a player there in bosun

Looks like he's playing right back there, if you look at the start if the vid, rather than Centre Mid

I checked LiveScore there and it has him down at rb for that game. LiveScore aren’t always correct with positions and formations but most likely was there for that game
another Positive sign at how versatile he can be then if he’s being trusted in a couple different positions

I reckon we’ll sell him in the summer when his loans up tbh. Think he’s a decent player but u also think the ccv, scales, nawrocki and lagerbielke will be all better. Think he’s played every game he’s been available for fleetwood though which is good. Means well make some money on him

If anyone's interested I watched both him and montgomery against Northampton at the weekend. Lawal played RB and Monty played LB. Both completely caught out of position multiple times when defending but both were decent when moving forward with the ball.

Lawal got moved to CB after they had to take their CB off after the worst performance I think I've ever seen (made Philips look like Nesta) He was a lot more comfortable when moved to CB which is more of a natural position for him. playing under Lee Johnson must be difficult and never realized how tiny he is btw!

Both didn't really exert themselves on the game and if you're not dominating at that level of football then you will never be a Celtic player. Both have found their level I believe without trying to sound too harsh.
