Never in a million years is he a centre half. I think due to him playing in the midfield previously they are trying to change his position due to his hight.

Rio Ferdinand was a midfielder and he was one of the first new generation centre half’s who could play it out from
    The back.

Clearly it’s not working for Lawal as he has been found wanting several times this season in the B team.

Yep. Pretty sure he won player of the year as a midfielder..

I remember Troy Deeney waxing lyrical about him and saying he was like Doucoure....a box to box midfielder..

The problem is, he looks * poor on the ball..

I think I should be on the bench before this lad.

Give the guy a break. Ball-playing centre halves don't grow on trees. I believe he was originally playing at DM and we are trying to transform him into a ball-playing CB. We did the same thing with Ajer. He's still very young. Way too early to tell whether he can adjust to his new role.

Exactly he played CM so should be comfortable with the ball at his feet. Personally I thinkit was his size that made him a good player at the younger age group. It's not all over for him but he needs to improve rapidily to have any hope

How many times have we all seen a guy that’s developed ahead of his age group look great because of his physique, only then to be overtaken as others mature.

Yeah I haven’t seen much of him tbh but my brothers mate played with him in Ireland u19s and was telling me he’s class but said the only thing he lacks is pace. That was when he was playing cdm so maybe they put him cb due to a lack of pace in the middle. Not sure

He will be 20 at the end of the month and he is light years behind what Ajer was at the same age.

Fair play to the boy there. Any time he stepped out of defence with the ball the last time I saw him it was chaos.

Shame his defending makes Olivier Tebily look like prime Maldini.

I'll tell you what though, I remember Tebily's man of the match performance for Birmingham when he made his debut after leaving us. To say I was gobsmacked is an understatement.

He had it in him tbh but from the second he scored an OG on his debut for us we knew he was a total bomb scare.

Celtic defender Bosun Lawal is a loan target for League One duo Portsmouth and Bristol Rovers, sources have told Football Insider.

The 20-year-old centre-back is likely to leave Parkhead for the upcoming 2023/24 season.

Portsmouth and Bristol Rovers have registered their interest in signing Lawal as they look to bolster their options
    ahead of the new campaign.

Lawal is highly regarded in Glasgow after joining Celtic from Watford in the summer of 2021.

The young defender has only made one appearance for Celtic since joining the club, with a three-minute cameo coming in the Scottish Cup last season.

Lawal rose through the ranks of Watford’s academy between 2019 and 2021 but rejected a one-year contract with the Hornets in favour of moving to Scotland.

However, he has been unable to force his way into the first-team picture at Celtic Park and the coaching staff have opted to send him on loan
    to gather experience.

He played 1,800 minutes of youth football for Celtic’s B side last season, scoring six times and registering two assists despite spending the majority of his time in defence.

Lawal’s mostly been deployed at centre-back during his time at Celtic, but has also shown his versatility by playing further forward in a midfield role.

Lawal has also impressed on the international stage having represented the Republic of Ireland since being called up to the Under-15s squad.

He remains a part of Ireland’s setup having now made four appearances for the country’s Under-21s side.

If it's a loan to either of those that's an ideal loan, teams that will be competing well in league 1, Portsmouth as someone to go to the top side and look to promotion chasing or Bristol where it will be a big emphasis on solid defending since they tend to be lower table.

If it's a sale, hopefully it's a decent fee and a potential sell on

Was very highly rated when he originally arrived, but during the pre-season games he barely resembled a footballer, and I don't think he was all that impressive for the youth team either.

Still, a loan down to League 1 is a good move for him, a solid season there and we can either sell him for a decent profit or have him as a proper CB option.

I wonder if they'll stick him back in midfield where he was player of the year for Watford's academy..

Sounds like a loan deal rather than a permanent which will be a good move for him and allow us to gauge whether it’s worth keeping him around or letting him go. I hope Summers, Vata, Anderson and Kelly get similar moves.
