Finished a re read of Sean Kenny's Celtic Fury. Set in the west of Ireland an enjoyable drama with a supernatural theme at its core.

To Kill a Mockingbird. Classic, just never got round to reading it. Very slow paced and a tad overrated, am I allowed to say that? :smiley-laughing002:

Aye, Harper Lee isn't actually the greatest writer imo, her prose is a little dull. The book is huge in every other way though, a massive achievement.

You should check out 'Murder Rap' by Greg Kading.

There's a good interview with him on Youtube discussing the murders of 2Pac and Notorious B.I.G.

Isn't there a bit of suspicion that it was actually written by Truman Capote?

Harper Lee never had anything else published.

1984 - spectacular. The themes are so applicable nowadays it is hard to fathom that it was written in 1949! George Orwell's writing style is really easy to follow and digest aswell. That is despite the fact it is quite dense and heavy with though-provoking ideas.

Just finished reading this book. It was quite good. If you don't have an in depth knowledge of the Irish struggle or the hunger strikes then I would definitely recommend it. If you're very well versed in Irish history then there's probably not a lot of new material in this book for you but it might still be worth a read. I certainly learned a few new things by reading it.

One of the good things about the book is that the author has spoken to people who were involved on all sides of the conflict. Republican ex prisoners, ex BA men, ex RUC and Loyalists. So you get an idea of how each of the different groups were viewing the hunger strikes at the time.

    6/10.

Just about to start reading this book............

Generally speaking I'm not really into poetry but I'm hoping this book will provide an insight into what kind of person Mary was. All of the other books about her life are either just a catalogue of the main events in her life or they are books written by academics who give their own thoughts on what kind of person she was based on old documents and historical events. This book is mostly made up of material actually written by Mary herself so it's a little bit different.

I put it down after the first few chapters. I just couldn't take to it. It felt dated and far-fetched from the get-go.
