Finished Jo Nesbo's crime thriller The Son. Not part of his Harry Hole crime series this is a stand alone book but in a similar style and if you enjoy his Harry Hole series which I very much do you will enjoy this one too. A good read for sure.

I'm reading The Meg just now, the one about the big prehistoric shark that got made into a film with Jason Statham, I would describe it as enjoyable nonsense.

I would really recommend it. Fundamentally disagree with him on a lot of things, however enjoyed reading why he believes in what he believes in and what he has tried to do in Cumbria. I genuinely like him and think he is a good *, while knowing if it comes to the crunch we would be on opposite sides of the barricades :giggle1:. Then again it was interesting reading biographies of Thatcher and Johnson as you always learn things from seeing the other side of the argument without having to agree with it. ( If the other side are at least willing to engage .)

Brilliant cheers for that. Exactly why it interested me when I seen it on audible, will maybe give it a go next time I'm looking, nice one.

I read this paperback years ago - probably when it was first published - and for some reason it occurred to me last week that it would work on the Kindle too.

    ;)

Hmm - photo didn't really work as intended. Tony Hawks. Hitch hiked round Ireland, with...

Read that before. Loved it. His other book 'playing the moldovans at tennis' is also very good

Finished Tana French's The Searcher. A little different from her previous books but still a good read set in the west of Ireland in rural Roscommon where a retired cop from Chicago has settled only to find himself sucked into the inner goings on of the local village as he gets sucked into looking for a missing local teenager.

Rory definitely leans quite central these days to be fair. Quite like his podcast with Alistair Campbell.

Also while I was away hiking in Death Valley Ken Bruen's A Galway Epiphany. Another great installment in his crime noir Jack Taylor series set in Galway. A really great read.

Finished Jo Nesbo's Blood On Snow. A stand alone crime thriller rather then part of his Harry Hole series. A quick (not that much bigger then a short story) read but nonetheless enjoyable.

I'm currently reading......"A Well Educated List of Valid Religious Theological Objections to the Practices of the Holy Roman Catholic Church" by Billy O'Boyne and William Williamson, 2 orangemen authors from the Harthill area I believe

The latest edition actually has an updated section called "Actual Suggested Religious Alternatives to Catholic Ideology" which includes a handy list of some of the reformed churches regularly attended by the bandsmen.
Most interestingly the ones with the strongest anti-Catholic mindset. As you would imagine, with such strong religious convictions these people attend church every day, not just a Sunday.
The book encourages followers of the orange culture to not only make clear their religious objections. But to offer the way they practice Christianity as a refreshing alternative.

In the book, we meet Wilma from Shotts, who elequently conveys her personal difficulties in the comprehension of such concepts as the Holy Trinity, the Blessing of Sacraments and the Rights of Church Hierarchy. She also weighs up the path to true salvation and forgiveness.... Is it through the Catholic practice of repentance and penance through Confession? Or the theory of pre-destination and judgement as promoted by reformers such as John Calvin? Wilma's spiritual turmoil is obvious. But her knowledge on the subject is vast.
She explains to us fascinating tales like why they took Guinness off tap at "The High Gallows" her local pub...

"It's cause they started a new barman called Martin" she tells us "He kept forgetting that he'd left the pint tae pour ye see....and folk were having tae shout tae him MARTIN!!!....MARTIN...MA GUINNESS..!!!
A lot of folk got barred fur that" says Wilma, "So they stopped getting it in just in case"

Wilma is also keen to show us her modern side. "It's no just flute band music I listen tae" she says, "I like modern stuff tae like Will-I-Am and the 90s group Sash!" She also tells us she's heard of a rapper called Killah Priest and she likes the sound of him she says as she devours another Terry's chocolate orange.
She loves new Zealand sportsman Sonny Bill Williams and the Protestant actor JOHNny KNOXville the star of the show Union Jackass

"Im known in the lodge by my nickname", she explains....."It's 'seaweed'...they call me 'seaweed'.....cause even the tide wulnae take me oot"

This book is an encyclopedia of religious knowledge and theology. Mixed with interesting characters like Wilma and Wullie Mason, pub landlord at 'High Gallows'. Who keeps a treadmill in the pub cellar and carries a spare flute with him at all times for emergencies. He can practice walking even when it's raining outside on his treadmill. But it wasn't always easy for Billy. He's battling a heroin addiction caused by smothering himself in poppies constantly as a young man.
"It started with just the once at rememberance day but before i knew it i was hooked on poppies galore. I needed poppies and minutes silences 24/7...id do anything to get them. It's got to the stage where there wisnae much I'd no dae fur more poppies....I'd pin them tae ma body and just let the heroine get in ma system. Me and ma big pal Terry the Butcher are planning his stag do in Afghanistan. In a big poppy field and I'll have ma flute"

This gem of a book will surely keep you occupied and combat your boredom while you hide in the shipyards during the next World War!!!!!! You just cannae go wrong

I was really bored there . Oh my *. hahaha
