That's true in fairness but it's not as if its uncharacteristic for him to be so erratic. Didn't mean to have a dig at you over the fantastic comment, just saw it mentioned a few times.

I'm glad fitba forums weren't really 'a thing' back when Henke pulled on a Celtic jersey. He would have been hounded out before he got up to tempo (for those too young to remember, he was less than stellar on arrival!).

Neil Lennon has told Boli Bolingoli and Christopher Jullien to ignore the boo boys as even the Parkhead greats copped flak from the fans.

The £10m duo rose to the challenge against AIK on Thursday night after stuttering starts to the their Celtic careers.

There were groans from the stands at times but Lennon reminded the pair he took it on the chin when he dared to pass the ball backwards in the UEFA Cup semi-final against Boavista – while even legend Henrik Larsson was in the firing line on his blundering debut at Hibs.

Lennon relishes the Parkhead atmosphere but he knows it can be demanding and he insisted the Boavista pep talk helped his new recruits bounce back.

He said: “I brought that game up. I wasn’t too chuffed about the reaction to that one. I dealt with it by getting angry. Look, it happens. They don’t mean it. It is an instinctive reaction at times because they want the team to do well.

I have told them a few stories about my time as a player as well. It isn’t exclusive to this group.

“It has been like this for eons. Sometimes the fans get a little bit anxious but the other night I thought they were brilliant.

Sometimes you let them get a bit of a grip of it first, then you can have a chat with them then, and tell them about your own experiences.

“It wasn’t always a cakewalk for me, it wasn’t always a cakewalk even for the great players here.

“Everybody got a touch now and again. While it is not nice, you just have to accept it sometimes and deal with it.

“Somebody else said to them about Henrik’s debut. We were talking about Teemu Pukki the other day, who had a year here.

Sometimes it works for you, sometimes it doesn’t. It doesn’t mean you are a poor player by any means. It just means it is a tough environment. Some people go on to absolutely thrive in it and I am hoping these two do.

“They showed a bit of character on Thursday which pleased me.”

The fans getting on their backs certainly won't help! Boli has been good in attack this season so far. Need to give the lad a chance.

Yeah because clubs pay attention to what fans say on forums.

Hmm, both agree and disagree. It won't help his confidence while he's trying to settle in, but he'll have to deal with this kind of pressure at a big club and he'll be stronger for getting through it.

I feel like he just needs to focus on doing the simple things well and he'll be fine once he gets a run of games and his confidence starts to build.

You're saying that but I 100% believe some players will keep an eye on the papers and forums regardless of what they say in interviews. It's an ego thing and they won't be able to help it.

Aye, because what people say on a forum affects the decisions the club make :giggle1:

If that were true we’d have had a RB 2 years ago and a CB last summer.

You've both missed the point completely.

It's the player I'm worried about - they're not immune to fans criticism, and some can become absolute basket-cases once the jitters fully set in. Broken by their own 'fans'... and effectively money down the drain!

Forums can spread anxieties amongst fans - a case in point here is the absolutely ridiculous pish that Boli was somehow 'terrible' against AIK. The truth is, he wasn't great, but he certainly wasn't anywhere near as bad as many are proclaiming! He had a few poor touches, a brain-fart mid-pitch for his yellow, and he came up with a nice bit of play to make an assist for the first goal. Hardly a *' disaster!

And to illustrate the hysteria; Julien had a brain-fart in the box when he lost concentration and hoiked a player back - nailed on Pen and Red (for any competent Ref). Completely ridiculous bit of play, and although it was commented on by a few, the truth is that it hardly caused a ripple. But Boli's Yellow mid-park... !? And no - I'm not having a go at Julien - just stating the *' obvious!

Get off the Bhoy's back. It's still far too early to be writing him off!

I don't know - probably not. And not because I think he's a dud, more because I think the focus that some fans have put him under has created a pressure that's too heavy for him to perform freely. Fans effectively * the team with their fish-wives hyperbole!

Tell you what though - I'll be super impressed if he does play and comes through it ok.

We haven't missed the point at all, if a player can't handle that sort of criticism or pressure then he's at the wrong club. Also, I haven't written him off, I think he'll end up being a decent player for us.
