I agree would rather him than Shankland. Only reason I see we'd sign LS is to stop him going to the zombies.

As long as we focus on getting it right ourselves, it wont matter about them. Whoever we bring in needs to be hungry and ready to go.

    Shankland doesnt worry me.

It kind of is. Because earlier you said it was a no brainer that Hooper would come here and get goals as he had scored plenty in the Championship. Pukki is an example as to why it doesn’t always work like that, as you need a certain mentality to do well and succeed at a club the size of ours. Hooper had that, and clearly Pukki didn’t.

Pukki went to the Championship after us bud. I actually said he went to Brondby and regained his confidence. Was in and out the team here, no player is ever going to properly settle.

I know he went there after us mate. But if he come to us from Norwich with the same goal scoring record as he did at them, I’m still not convinced he would have succeeded here, as I just don’t think he had the mental strength to do so.

    We will never know.

So even more irrelevant than the previous points were.

No really cause you were saying it was a no brainer Hooper would succeed here because he scored goals in the Championship. Surely that then goes the other way. Pukki should have been a certainty to fail in the Championship as he couldn’t cut it in the SPL. Football just doesn’t work like that.

The English Championship is littered with dross that do well in that league.

The point was signing proven strikers. I didn’t even bring up Hooper originally, you’re mistaking the entire discussion. Go back and read the whole thing for context.

Pukki isn’t dross because he had a mediocre bit part season at Celtic. He did well in the Premier League and Championship.

People think Celtic are the ultimate test of a footballers ability and like you say, football doesn’t work like that.

Pukki absolutely crumbled at the pressure here, it wasn’t ability for him, it was mentality.

At a team with not as much pressure and expectations, he tended to exceed them.

But Waghorn never had a good season at Championship level, he was * in England and * here. Garner had scored in league 1 but failed at Championship level. Clint Hill was knocking 40 when he joined. Barton was about 35 or 36 and thought he'd stroll the league. He signed Championship players who were * or at the end of their career.

Comparing them to people like Hooper or Dembele is miles off.

Trying to think of the last guys we’ve signed from the Championship. Technically Scott Sinclair, Moussa Dembele are the last I can think of.

Surely there’s been some after that?

    EDIT: Uroghide and Shaw?

Might have been mate, I wasn’t sure on that one. Think Luca Connell was League 1, 2019 Bolton were in the Championship.

It’s a market we’ve not really been in for years when you think about it.

I’m pretty sure they were championship and he was starting for them at 18 when we signed him.

They had all just relegated to league 1. I think Connell played 10 games for Bolton in the league and they lost them all bar 1 draw.

Sheffield Wednesday weren't as bad as Bolton but they still had a poor season.
