Kennedy was better than McManus is now

That's your opinion, fair enough, but I think McManus is a better, quicker player than Kennedy. By the way, I don't even think McManus is good enough for the highest level.

John Kennedy and Steve McManus both will improve. Centre Back is an usual postion were by the older you get the better you become.

They both aren't good enough which is why we need at least 1 new centre back. It's worrying we aren't being linked with any though.

I dont think McManus is good enough either but I think Kennedy will become one of our better defenders once he gets a good few games under his belt. I doubt that JK will come back and be putting in MOTM performances at the start of the season.

I agree. Both have potential and Balde isn't hardly Franz Beckenbauer. Need a bit more quality for CL.

I hope that I am completely wrong about JK, that he comes back and turns into a young scottish beckenbauer, but I don't understand how some people see him as the answer to all our defensive problems.

He would have spent the last 2 years learning about the game just because he may lack pace (which he doesnt) he will make the pace up in his brain:celt_2:

How do you learn the game on the treatment table? The best way for players (especially defenders) to learn is to play. Kennedy will never be good enough to hold down a regular starting place, mark my words.

Kennedy was outstanding before he got injured. He was our best defender and Scottish internationalist at the age of 20. His performances in the Nou Camp and Ibrox in the space of four days was outstanding and he was MOTM on many occassions as well. His reading of the game, his timing of tackles and his concentration were first rate. These attributes will never leave him. I think this is what McManus lacks, the natural talent and positional sense that Kennedy has.

He has been out for a long time, just like Ronaldo and van Nistelrooy were and they came back better than before! It will take him a good while yet of training and playing practice and reserve games before he can get anywhere near the first team but this boy will be a star for us if he makes a full recovery from that horrendous injury.

Remember Maloney? Similar injury and he is now a first team regular and he wasn't before his knee injury. Kennedy was a first team regular before that fatefull night at Hampden and he will be again.
