Celtic get beat in a massive match and this guys concerned about wee Rod Stewart

I think that's the best scapegoat we've had all night.

 

Surely you can make a more valid contribution to a the thread than posting a picture of Rod Stewart and calling him a *.

 

not wanting to upset anyone but ffs some of yous need to get a grip.
one year ago (or just over) we were miles behind in the league,out of europe,
3-0 down at half time against kilmarnock and going nowhere.
now some folk are disgusted we didnt beat Benfica away!
we are now in the europa league and have a great chance of the last 16 in
C.L. Rome wasnt built in a day!

im following up from the Barcelona game where i posted the same topic and was shouted down..............simple

 

you can't single out ambrose thats ridiculous he was one of a few players that seemed to be up for the game tonight

midfield just didnt work should have played a 5 man midfield like we usually do

i also think brown and ledley werent fit and it showed but can see why lennon played them they are big experienced players, sooner or later though we are gonna have to play mcgeoch and kayal and other squad players, whats the point of a squad if you stick to a set 11 even though a few are injured

i thought ambrose was his normal self clearing headers and tackles and try to play football when he gets a chance, its just that our midfield were absolutely * * *

benfica crowded our players and mulgrew, ledley, wanyama, and brown just couldn't control a pass! and turn with the ball! hold off a player! make a feint! dribble, or make some passes on a regular basis

this eventually led to long balls

benfica destroyed us tonight, they figured if they got close to us and crowded us we'd capitulate and thats what happened

although we only lost 2-1 it was our goal keeper and good defensive play that stopped them getting the win by and larger margin

but hey this was always going to be a very hard game

i just wonder what the tactics were tonight ? it was hard to decipher because we were so pooor

 

Not often I say this but Benfica fully deserved to win tonight. By far the better team.

Bunch of cheats though. As usual.

 

Even if Rod wasn't there, what does it matter?

Different crowd in tonight. A few poppies being worn and a lot of Gymreag (Welsh) being spoken. No expert in the language but some were wanting us to loose. Some people need to get a life. I thought we were fairly well beaten. Not impressed with the ref at all....but thats no real excuse.

Benfica played as were expected. They used all the pitch..which Barca don't. We were good on the counter but Benfica don't play as predictably as Barca.

The positive we can take from tonight is that Moscow, despite seeing how we contained Barca, couldn't replicate us. Their management team either plays their own way no matter what, or their manager is incapable.

IF we get through, that will be how we do it.

But is no longer in our hands.

Barca are through on top. They can afford to field Their 2nd team if they choose and I expect they will. Benficaca know this and will go into their last game beleiving they can win. Barca will be a team of individuals trying to prove themselves. It's not good.

I think we'll beat Moscow, but I'm worried Benfica will get a result against Barca.

But lets think about were we are. We are competing for a place in the knockout stage of the Champions league. Two months ago I'd have given my right arm to be in the league at all. What I've seen us achieve is amazing. If we get through then that's fantastic.

But I'm so proud of the players, the management and more importantly..the support. Whatever lies before us, it has been fantastic.

And always will be.

To be frank we got all we deserved. Cue a nervy last night at CP.

Well i don't know the exact number of our attendance today, but I suppose it was about 50000, which is very good for us, since most portuguese people aren't exactly swimming in money. (and yes, even if today's game was decisive for us to keep the dream of qualifying to the next round alive, it's still pretty good).

The truth is that SL Benfica's stadium only gets 65000 on a group stage when the Top European teams visit us (like Barcelona). This can be explained by the fact that most of Benfica's fans live, actually, very far from Lisbon, and given the actual financial crisis it's very difficult for us to come to our stadium. It's still pretty sad for many fans who were used to get 120000 people (old stadium) in the golden days.

On the other hand, in most portuguese away games, every stadium bar Vitória Guimarães, Porto, Sporting, and Braga, gets full of Sl Benfica supporters. And even some european ones, like Paris 2 years ago for Europa League quarter finals, when 20000 portuguese fans attended that match

 

And why?

He is a Celtic fan, like you and me. So why try and put the guy down just because he cried?

 

It's true though - he was a total ghost on the pitch and was nowhere for their two goals
