Tbh money is obviously a motivator but we don’t have a clear pathway from the Youth team to the first team, Ralston and Teirney being the last examples of us doing that. If you where a young up and coming player and saw that the club just went and bought whenever they needed a position filled, you’d definitely think carefully about your future imo.

 

I don't think we need to be bitter about it, mate. He is next level and believed in himself to go down to one of the top clubs in the world and make the breakthrough, which he's done.

I'm disappointed but he made a career choice and it's paying off - fair enough.

Aye true, he's one we offered a clear pathway to, and plenty dosh for a young lad. Ange bringing him on against the huns and when we desperately needed a goal against Dundee Utd shows the faith he put in him.

 

Feels weird having an academy player and Scottish lad who could genuinely go on to be world class. An attacker especially. In my life we've had McGregor and Tierney, that's about it, for proper top class academy graduates (by that I mean players who could fit into just about any side in the world). And for Scotland we've not had a single attacker who's been even close

 

I don't see how you can hate on him. Aye he's a Tim and it's disappointing for us but he won't have any regrets due to how it's going for him..

Look at what he's already doing, got the buzz around him from Klopp and their support..

He's chapping on the door for game time at one of the biggest clubs in the world, in the best league in the world. Liverpool bar last year have been challenging for leagues and the champions league almost every year..

 

It can also mean someone who leaves due to things that are outwith your control.


Anyway it doesn’t matter he’s a top prospect and will hopefully go on to smash it for the national team

Bit of an exaggeration there. Still has a lot of improving to do but he's only a young boy. People need to calm down and let him develop.

 

He won't have any regrets, but neither will we. This is not a case of us mistreating youth or undervaluing his potential. We played him against Rangers at 16. That isn't normal. We made it clear we wanted to keep him. He made the choice, and it was probably the right one.

It'll still be interesting to fantasise about "what could have been" if he ends up becoming a superstar.

Trying to think of equivalent scenarios is pretty difficult. Andy Robertson is probably the only other player that we had on our books that reached the very top. What a great guy to have at your side at Liverpool to guide you. He'll keep him grounded.

 

On against Chelsea

 

His performances for the Scotland under 21’s was * unreal.

He is going to be a talent, still gutted the way we got shafted.

 

Watched the highlights and they struggled to handle him..

He's massively advanced for his age and will be starting the Clarke before long..
