He's a tremendous player. I would love to see this happen. It would be a great morale booster and a major kick in the nuts to the sassenachs, who can't buy a player for love nor money(not that they have any).

I'm not doubting the accuracy of your claims, technom8t. I just think they're blind stupid in practice. We've had great concerns -- rightly, as well -- about our defence and no matter how few we concede, we'll still have those. Last season we were exceptional at taking the pressure off our defence.

This is why no one truly knows the skills of Forster, Majstorovic continues to have supporters, Loovens hasn't been shot, and we've not went mad in the transfer market for a new CD.

We're in the comfort zone in the SPL. Having the likes of Ledley, Kayal and Brown in our team will prevent our defence from coming under too much exposure. But the moment we face any decent opposition, you'll see just how strong our defence is in comparison to other European sides.

you do make a good point in that our defense may not have been tested that well last season, but we can only play the opposition in front of us u say that the midfield had a big part to play in our defensive record, taking away from the work our defence done, it like saying that hooper and stokes haven't been tested because the midfield helped out in setting up there goals and also the caliber of opposition they faced yet there is no critisism of them? i think alot of it came from the media last season, they always had something to say about our back line, but the stats don't lie, i just think to call them abysmal is a bit strong :50:

The reason we conceded so few is that, also if you look at other teams with few conceded like Barca, we usually dominated possession, it shouldn't be attributed to our defence.

but when we do concede it's the defenses fault?? even with our possession??

i'm obviously not going to change your mind but i am not going to nock M.Wison, Izzageri, MAJ or mulgrew, i certainly wouldn't call the abysmal thats just a joke calling them that.

EDIT : can i just say also that we had a record amount of clean sheets last season that's with commons not joining till Jan, and kayal missing a few games due to injury, the defense deserves credit....

Last season, we conceded 8 goals in Europe in 4 games. That's about the level our defence is at. We can ill-afford such, if we're going to strive to be a high profitable club.

This has gone a bit off topic. Both sides here have valid arguments. The truth of the matter probably lies in between you views. Our defence is certainly not abysmal, but neither is it as good as our clean sheet record would suggest.

Excited about Bellamy though. In truth, I'd probably rather Bianchi simply because I think he's more suited to what we need at the moment, younger and would be our player. But there is no tangible link between the club and player at the moment and we aren't really in a position to turn down a player of Bellamy's quality.

NEIL LENNON last night revealed talks have begun with Manchester City over a stunning swoop for Craig Bellamy.

Celtic boss Lenny wanted to use the Dublin Super Cup to corner Bellamy about returning to Parkhead. But the striker didn't travel but Lennon admitted negotiations took place between both clubs as Celtic try to land City's frozen-out £80,000-a-week hitman.
It's understood Celts majority shareholder Dermot Desmond and City chief executive Garry Cook played golf last Friday.
Now the Celts gaffer hopes both parties can make serious progress in the next few days to pull off the signing of the summer.
He said: "I didn't make in-roads with Craig, but the clubs have been working on it in the background. Hopefully we'll know more later in the week.
"I haven't spoken about the wage side of things yet, but there were conversations about it between both clubs."
Despite chasing a box-office signing Lennon admits he's still searching for another keeper to rival Lukas Zaluska and Dominic Cervi.
Lennon's search goes on after he scrapped plans to sign Stipe Pletikosa because he wasn't up to scratch.
He added: "We're no further forward in terms of a keeper. We'll get back working on that tomorrow.
"The goalie is the priority, but we'd like another striker if we could. We've got plenty of time to fill both positions though."
After cruising to a 5-0 win over a League of Ireland XI, Lennon admits confidence is high.
But he's still looking for more before SPL duties resume against Aberdeen on Sunday.
He said: "It was important for some of the players to get game time. There were aspects I wasn't happy about, but you can't always get a perfect game.
"Gary Hooper's overall play was OK. He worked very hard and deserved at least one goal. To get two in such a short space of time will do him the world of good.
"Stokes has goals in him. We think he's a talent."
Meanwhile, stopper Darren O'Dea admits he could have played his last game for the Hoops.
O'Dea said: "Basically my bags are packed.
"My agent is working hard on a move.
"If it doesn't work out and I stay at Celtic I'll be working hard to get in the team, but it looks like I'll be leaving."
Axed trialist Katlego Mphela has blasted Lennon for not giving him enough time.
Mphela said: "You can't expect to gel with new players after two training sessions and 45 minutes of a match.
"Maybe if I had another game it would have been different."

Would be a great signing, he is a top quality player.

Still, I would like to see a mobile target-man brought in for Europe and those horrible, horrible pitches.

Agreed, apologies for assisting the derailment of the thread. My frustrations are well-known, I'll leave it at that.

I'm very excited at the thought of Bellamy joining. He's one of the most admirable pros in the game. His focus, determination, commitment and -- not to forget -- his skill and ability will surely push us on. I'd love it to happen.
