almost parity?without exact figures its mere cojecture."the blessed martin" is a tongue in cheek reference to the esteem MON is held in by many of my fellow celtic fans, controversially i think he was slightly overrated

    We dont need figures

Sky Sports | Football | Transfer Centre | Speculation | McLeish - Why Balde didn't sign

He didnt go because of a matter of principle, the very one he has just dropped out of self convenience.

Birmingham met his wage demands and he turned them down.

Overrated to what degree? I dont be hearing the * that you do so enlighten me. I agree with Gunt, MON struggled badly when the board tightened the budgets.

Give any manager the financial backing that MON got plus the world class players already at CP and you'd get near the same end results imo

Balde was not a liability at all under Gordon Strachan. He was the cornerstone of our back four in Strachan's first season and I don't think it's a coincidence that Stephen McManus had his best season as a Celtic player when he had Balde playing alongside him.

Yes big Bobo was poor with the ball at his feet but I'd rather have a centre-half who can defend properly, win balls in the air regularly and intimidate opposing strikers than a bombscare who thinks he's Franz Beckenbauer like NumptyHeid was. Centre-backs who can pass the ball are great but first and foremost they should be imposing defenders. Balde was an imposing defender, NumptyHeid was not.

get him back in the team. i know he cant pass but for to long out defence has been bullied and pushed off the ball. that wouldnt happen with bobo in the team. the guy was a great player for us then when stracken took over he was dumped and not given a chance. does anyone else think that the guy might care about the club and actually still believe he may have a future at paradise

Balde was nicknamed Bobo Bombscare and he did think he was franz beckenbaur!! :56:

You not remember him on several occassions, trying to dribble the ball through midfield? I do

Caldwell was worth the money we were paying him, Balde was not.

He did have the odd moment of madness aye but so did Caldwell to be fair. :56:

I agree Bobo wasn't worth what we were paying him. Still say he was a vastly superior defender to Caldwell though.

Thats complete bullshit, go look at Strachans first season in charge, Balde was first choice. Balde was dropped from the first team after disputes with the Club Management NOT STRACHAN. He was later transfer listed after slagging McGrain and Celtic wanting to force change in their wage structure. Go away if you are just looking for something to slag Strachan with.

He maybe cost us a few but he also saved us countless times by appearing from nowhere with that big black telescopic leg at the last minute. His performances at European level were also much better than Caldwell's imo. Caldwell was a constant worry to me in Europe.

Balde was a constant worry for everyone. You want to bash one flawed player to make another one look good. Balde cost us many a important match in Europe, more so than Caldwell.

I'm not bashing Caldwell to make Balde look good. Or at least that isn't my intention. I think Bobo was good in his own right.

I agree i think he was a fantastic player maybe not the best footballer in the world but he knew how to defend and wasnt beaten in the air often:86:

Hated the way his celtic carear ended:50:

infact if he was still here i bet we wouldnt have lost half the goals we have lost this season

i think MON was slighty overrated on the basis of a few points;he inherited a good few world class players when he took over at cp,got good money to spend, never signed a decent keeper, let rangers do a treble, cup double and league and league cup double in 5 seasons, wasted fortunes on deals for henri camara-juhnino-stephane henchoz-michael gray-amongst others and left us with an ageing squad that was in decline, not * mate-just some cold hard facts:50:
