Agree with this. I would prefer 1 top quality player to 2 decent players.

Celtic could miss out on Baba Diawara after Chinese club Beijing Guoan made a move for the striker.

The Senegalese ace continued his fine form this season for Maritimo by scoring another double last week in the Portuguese Cup against Santa Clara, bringing his season’s tally to 13.

Hoops boss Neil Lennon has personally watched the 23-year-old in action and has made him his No.1 transfer priority during the transfer window.

if he had the opportunity to ply his trade at Celtic or go to China and he chose to go East, i'd be very disappointed. if he has the choice, i would hope he'd show some ambition instead of greed.

Make a bid, start talking & get the ball rolling with either Rhodes or Diawara.

The January a few years back where we didn't sign Fletcher and ended up losing the league in the end keep's coming back to my mind here.

However, Celtic will have no chance of competing financially with Beijing if they follow up their interest.

They have just appointed Portuguese Jaime Pacheco as their new manager and he has told his new owners that he wants the striker.

Chinese football is awash with money, with Nicolas Anelka recently moving to Shenghai Shenhua on a £10m-a-year salary.

Diawara’s best friend, Ladji Keita, is already at Beijing and has urged his friend to join him in the Far East.

He said: “If Baba asks me about the football here, I will give him my opinion. We lived together in Dakar, he is my friend.

“The level of football is lower and slower than in Europe but it’s improving and maybe he will want to come here.”

Meanwhile, Bhoys defender Efrain Juarez looks set to return to Mexico. The utility man – at £3m Lennon’s most expensive signing to date – is on loan to Real Zaragoza, who have sacked Mexican coach Juan Aguirre, and replacement Manolo Jimenez has told Juarez he isn’t in his plans.

Now, he could return to Mexico for nothing or a cut-price fee, despite having more than two years left of his contract.

The chinese are trying to boost their league and if they keep up the big signings and cut out the corrution, they have the fan base, stadia and money to make it a very very good place to play and watch football.

I think if they make a viable offer for baba, he will go there.

Unless he's chasing a big money contract, there's no reason why he should go to Chinese league. Most good players don't stick around for long, if there are such players there. Quality of the league doesn't seem great considering how many half-decent players don't make it in Europe, but suddenly start playing well in China and scoring loads of goals.

Hopefully Diawara won't chase money, he has quality to play at higher level than Maritimo and Chinese league would be a step down.

That or we will all be sitting here on the vey last day clock watching only for * all to happen.
between this guy and the ex hun boyd i know who we are most like to sign even tho celtic has said the ex hun is a no go.
We normally get let down at the end of a transfer window and i dont see this one being diff.

I know it's been said before, but guys like him could be the difference between us becoming a force in Europe again or simply being content with conquering Scotland and nothing more.

The Portuguese league is only behind the bigger leagues in Europe like Spain, Italy and Germany by a smallish margin and he is a shining light over there. He would tear the SPL apart.

Please Lenny, I'd be happy if Baba Diawara was our only signing during this window. I mean that. Rogne and Mulgrew in central defence, with Izzy now back, to get us through the rest of the season in defence with Kelvin Wilson, Victor Wanyama and possibly Mikael Lustig as back up would suit me perfectly.
