saturdays game again highlights our need for another striker like him or Rhodes. 4 points that sort of player could win us an extra 6

Was it not due to work permit issues? I thought they had agreed terms and everything.

I agree, * the haggling, if we signed this guy he would probably be the best player in the league. For £3m he is cheaper than Jellyfish and looks better.

It wasn't haggling that made us miss out, it was something to do with work permits

Celtic scout John Park made another personal check on Maritimo striker Baba Diawara on Sunday.

STV has learned Park took in Maritimo’s 1-0 loss to Benfica on Sunday evening and held talks with the club’s president, Carlos Pereira.

Diawara missed out on a move to Glasgow in the summer transfer window but is back in Neil Lennon’s sights, as he looks to add to his forward options in January.

Celtic have maintained their interest since the collapse of the deal and the Portuguese club say there is a chance he could move to the Scottish Premier League at the second time of asking.

“There have been informal talks since September,” Maritimo’s financial director, Sanchoz Freitas, told STV.

“The decision to sell Diawara will rest solely with the president. As far as I am aware, there has been no fresh offer from Celtic.

“I understand Celtic scout John Park spoke with our president at the game yesterday.”

Diawara came close to signing for Celtic back in August, with Maritimo saying the deal had collapsed at the last minute because of “visa issues”.

No application was made to the Scottish FA seeking a work permit endorsement for the player at that time and, if Celtic were to step up their interest again, they would be required to go before an appeals panel.

Since the collapse of the deal in August, the Senegalese has gone on to score 12 goals in 14 games for Maritimo, attracting subsequent interest from other European clubs.

    Straight from the horses mouth.

Looks like STV aren't buying into it either.

We didn't even apply for a WP. Always had suspicions about why this deal didn't go through. Was obvious.

We had the money in August so there should be no reason we can't tie this up quickly given we now have the £2m from the Hooiveld sale aswell, reading the comments from their chairman it doesn't sound like they would be too hard to deal with, get it done Celtic!!

    Canny see it.

    Just canny see it.

Nothing has changed since the summer, except we've signed Bangura for around £2m & he's yet to score & Diawarra has scored 12 in 14.

    Won't happen.

I can see it happening if we ship Sammy. Yes, I know he's playing at left mid but the cash from that would probably go towards Baba. I've already said on the Sammy thread that I don't want him gone for less than 3mil but if we can get that and turn it around into a deal for Baba I'd be chuffed. That would allow us to get more gametime for Ledley and Commons when he's fit and may also allow some more exposure for wee Dylan (assuming he can play on the left).
