I think we might mate. The board know we need to beat Rangers and although we're better than them like last season nothing is guaranteed. Splash 4m and some on a CB, win the league and continue to do so for the next few years hopefully.

i feel that the only realistic option for us to get baba is if he has already signed a contract and everything has been arranged in the summer for him to move in january.

otherwise, if that is not the case, i think that a lot of top teams will be in for him and it will be nearly impossible to get him.

    here's hopping!

PLEASE COUGH UP £4M CELTIC PLEASEEEEEEEE

Scotland kid Jordan Rhodes is on Celtic's radar - as is Maritimo striker Baba Diawara
MARITIMO chairman Carlos Pereira has opened the door for Celtic to make a second move for £4million Baba Diawara.
Parkhead manager Neil Lennon has begun a global search for a striker and Scotland Under-21 star Jordan Rhodes is also on his radar. Lennon made Turn a trip south last night to watch the Huddersfield hitman against Charlton.
But the 21-year-old, who has netted 15 times in League One this term, drew a rare blank as his side lost 2-0. Lennon also made a personal check on Maritimo striker Diawara just a couple of days before the close of the last transfer window.
And the Parkhead boss saw the 23-year-old bag a last-minute winner against Sporting Lisbon.
However, with concerns over work-permit issues and other irons in the fire, Celtic chose Mohamed Bangura instead and agreed a £2m deal with AIK Stockholm for the Sierra Leone ace.
Since the move to Glasgow fell through, Diawara has dazzled in Portugal and is currently the league's top scorer with nine goals from only 10 games.
The Senegal star looks certain to move in January and Pereira would be happy to reopen talks with Celtic.
Lennon has confirmed Diawara is still in his sights and said: "We are going to have a look. He is doing well in Portugal."
The Parkhead manager has a host of names on his hitlist but the Maritimo chief claims he is ready to do business if Diawara re-emerges as the main target.
Pereira said: "Celtic are interested and we are waiting to see what happens. I would like to keep Baba because he is the top scorer in the league and is doing very well.
"But I accept he may leave in January and there are a number of clubs who are interested in his services.
"If Celtic want to talk again about Baba, I don't have a problem with that.
"Business is business and we are waiting to see if there is any to be done.
"There is plenty of time before the window reopens, so there is no rush."

can somebody who has watched rhodes play comment on this a bit. is rhodes a physical player? is he more physical than baba?

according to baba's and rhodes wikipedias they are identical in respect of their heights and baba looks quite powerful in youtube videos so i really don't think that rhodes is more physical than baba....

the board would sanction this one off 4 million pound striker . it would mean the board would be looking to offload someone for a bit of money in the summer , probably ki , and plus brown will probably be leaving. the board will look at our league chances in january and if we are in with a good shout of winning the league they will splash the cah to ensure it . we need CL football next year , if we get to the group stages we will be sorted again.

the board will know we have players we need to sell , like samaras , mccourt , brown . and posssibly ki? if the money is right . there is also a chance of getting good money for matthews , and of lustig is good that would repreesent good business. the point is we have surplus players on our staff that could recoup some money for us.

i'm with Pope on this one. can only see this happening if it is around the £3m mark. i can't see us spending £4m on a player for a long time.

we've heard that Ki will be sold off in the summer time every season. nothing is concluded with Brown so i wouldn't jump the gun there either. we have seen it time and again that the board will not 'splash the cash' in fear of getting a flop. they would rather spend low to get low risk players.

if the money is right, our whole squad is available. every player has their price.

yes, we have a lot of capital in our assets but why would you sell a first team regular for one other? our squad is too big and those fringe players can go not the regulars.

Forget about selling Ki. Or Brown for that matter (if he renews his contract).
M Wilson, Du Ri, Hooiveld, O Dea, Juarez, Rassmussen, Murphy, McGinn must be worth at least a combined £6-8 mill. If we buy another striker I think Samaras will be punted so you can add at least another 1.5 on top of that and if we're in for a centre back, Loovens ought to be flogged too for about 1 - 1.5.
Plenty money for a quality forward and centre back provided we get rid of the dross.

I don't see rhodes as a physical player he's more of a pacey sort however, when the ball goes into the box he can't have bullet a header in the top corner

But after seeing footage of Baba yesterday I'd say Baba is more powerful/physical

If our board are not willing to spend 4 million on Baba it's time for them to go even of we win the league. This guy could be a better coup than Kayal and Izzy. He's the type of player who really would be our new Larsson. For once please have some ambition!.

THink because of the amount of players on the wage bill that is the biggest funding problem. If we're willing to actually spend £4million on a player think we'd need to offload a good few jsut to free up wages.
    Doubt we'll spend £4million though.

    No chance lad.

Wilson O'Dea and Du Ri wont get fees above 250k if anything as there contracts are up in the summer.
    Juarez 2mil max!
    Hooiveld 1.5milish
    Rass 500k or less
    Murphy less than 500k
    McGinn less than 500k

So 5.75mil max from those players.

Simmer down. He's never scored more than 14 goals in a season. I agree he has talent but 'the new Larsson?'
