Very true... and then there are some that have not stood the test of time, not nearly as well. Some genuine head scratchers, what people were thinking/tastes at the time, or how on earth they won over others that were snubbed/overlooked, etc.

All part of the fun, lol.

 

Just done my list, so many Great Films I nearly went Mad, hold on I am already Mad, what I meant even Madder!

@HoopSprings I'll take Annie Hall over more than a few on the list - although AH is fine for what it is, it is a bit of an outlier - not that many romcoms ever end up winning, off the top of my head can think of only Marty and Shakespeare in Love... Gigi is the deal breaker for me though. There is simply no justification for that winning anything - ever.

 

To be honest, it's not that Annie Hall is a bad film, it's that it won the Oscar the year Star Wars was up for it.

There are few films that should have been a stick-on for Best Film but Star Wars is one of them. Nothing like it had come before and the way it captured people's imagination was incredible. Not to mention one of the biggest cliche-busters in film.

 

Which is fair enough & why these things are often disputed, or some that have stood the test of time far better or really grow with appreciation that may not have been when first released in some cases or some that were overly lauded at the time but not aged well, the sometimes odd choice to reward obscre or snobbery about a movie like SW or there was some sketchy goings on in the background - such as Harvey Weinstein with Shakespeare in Love (and others) for example.

 

Sorry taz I’m going to struggle to get time to do this, have to duck this one mate .

 

There's a lot of these that I haven't watched. But I promise not to nominate any of the posh ones I've never seen just to look cool.

 

As always, its just about the ones you have. Never an expectation that people will have sat through all of these, lol

 

Just to say, will be extending the deadline for this, as I have some RL commitments over the next couple of days. Which is just as well as have just the 5 sets of rankings in so far, and thanks to those who have already submitted. I haven't replied to those as yet, but will do so shortly, as won't get much of a chance to over the next couple of days.

All going well, will still try to have the Rankdown Reveal commence later that same evening, but will see how it goes.
