Could be a problem with the differential?
-

all the time....clutch in or out!
the gearbox was a second hand one. -
before doing anything major again, swap the front tyres, if your tracking or camber/caster has been out you might have got uneven wear on the inside of the tyre, this can contribute to wheel noise its worth a shot
or try this form PEUGEOT questions and answers: find help from - and give help to - other motorists
hope this helps, i will keep looking this side too :50: -

Yeah when you rev the car the whine seams to match the revs, so not the gearbox<<
^^^ in my case the revs are fine...only when driving..or free wheeling. -
timing belt maybe whining.

As someone said I think its the differential. Maybe there are some were on one of the gears. (my english isnt that good in auto terms)...
-
make sure its not something silly like a sticky calliper ad causing the brakes to squeal even in a freewheel strip them down n give them a good greasing, or if it is gearbox related drop the oil out of the box and see what colour it is make sure there is no metal particles through it, dont kow much about pug's but you can only try..
