If the feilds of athenry can be linked and also LTPSing, then so can this song using the same logic.
BTW i'm not advocating the singing these songs at CP, but my reasoning is different than whats being discussed.

    Dont agree

Those songs are directly related to Celtics origins, Aiden McAnespie isn't.

BTW, I think its a wondeful ballad that I have witnessed bring grown men to tears, it just has no relation to Celtic.

    I'm not being difficult but;

Celtic - irish origins - feilds of athenry - song of irish oppression - related.

Celtic - irish origins - Aidan McAnespie - song of irish oppression - related.

    Where have i gone wrong?

Its hardly a song of oppression though is it?

Its a tragic song about some poor kid who got shot, deliberately or not, I just dont think its a Celtic-related song.

C'mon Ross its definitelly a song of oppression.
Innocent child mowed down by sodier for no apparent reason other than being of catholic Irish decent.

    Allegedly

We can split hairs over the oppression thing but still dont see the Celtic link.

Starved irish immigrants moved to Ireland and were then oppressed by less tolerant western-scottish people. Celtic were formed to help those people.

The fileds on Athenrye and LTPS both show triumph and sadness above that adversity.

Aiden McAnespie isn't relevant IMO, tragic though it is.

No they don't Ross, think about it.

Let the people sing... they're lullaby's and battlecry's....

We sing and therefor advocate this at CP, yet if Irish fans sing Lullaby's and battlecry's (rebel songs?) we toss them out. Where is the logic?:87:

    Let the people sing ...

Join us hand in hand ...

It was music that kept their spirits free ...

Its all about battling back against the oppresion, which is what Brother Walfrid wanted in 1888

I wasn't at the game yesterday as i was down south.

When i got home i watched the full re run on tv.

I was with my g/f who hates anything sectarian in nature.

I was UTTERLY EMBARRASSED and ASHAMED of the ARSEHOLES who shame our club by singing IRA songs.

Go to some skanky boozer or a republican walk if you want and sing these songs till yer hate infested hearts content, STAY AWAY form our games.

NO ONE from Celtic wants to hear it and as a previous poster said, you're no better than THEM.

Rant over, F**K off with your IRA songs.

Sectarian isn't neccesarily an insult, as far as i'm concerned i like rebel music and agree with most of the doctrine, if you choose not to thats fine. But you are no better than me for it, and you have no reason to be so abusive.
These songs should not be sung at celtic games IMO, but these people do not shame our club, they simply risk a ban and give the media ammo to use against the club.
Finally Rebel music, as well as Irish rebel music, isn't only appreciated in skanky boozers, in fact Bob Dylan studied it and adopted alot of the melodies in his own music.

THESE people DO shame our club. Anyone who sings IRA songs shames our club and disgraces the vast majority of our support.

They don't simply risk a ban, they risk points deductions and sanctions from several bodies. The only reason it hasn't happened yet is because that mob are FAR worse than us and 'The establishment' don't wish to upset the most influential team in the country.

Plenty proper Celtic songs available, songs like Athenrye and Let the people sing are also acceptable no matter what the scum think. Irish songs are acceptable. IRA songs are NOT. Not at Celtic Park.

I generally don't attend away games as i always take my sons to football. The level of drunken behaviour and offensive IRA songs sung by our away support stops me taking them.

And i re iterate, it makes us no better than them in every neutrals eyes.

FYI i actually do agree with the sentiment of many rebel songs and have quietly listened to them for many hours in the past. Singing them at Celtic games is another matter.
