The chances of us winning this game are minimal. It's our home games that we'll need to win to have a chance of qualifying.

Call me crazy, but I don't think a draw is out of the question.

We have to be much better than we have been though. Much, much better.

on top form we could go as far as getting a result, its a shame that said form is hard to come by nowadays.:54:

Defensively Madrid aren't the best but they have very talented midfield and forward players, the only problem for me is whether we have enough of the ball to make any impact on that defence.

    There could be another problem.

The missus and me are going to Madrid come what may and she has just been checking the temperatures for next week until Monday.....hot! even in the evening. I hope it cools a bit for us.

We will need to play a high tempo game to try and shut them down and if it's very hot then we could suffer late on in the game. I can't imagine we will stand off them and let them play.

Make no mistake they will have the lions share of possession, what we musn't do is give the ball away cheaply or defend far too deep.

A draw would be a great result for us tbh.

    A draw?!

Well I really think it's asking a bit much but we should at least be insisting our players go out and be competent. It seems when any straightforward ball is played over the top, we are all at sea, a la Sion away. We will get crucified for any such basic error in Madrid. Yes we need to keep the ball an awful lot more as well, something we struggle to do in Europe.

    Here's hoping:celt_2:

Play 5 3 2 as I dont think we have looked that great with one up top. Make the team compact but still give our two strikers a chance to link up and create opportunities

    ----------------Forster

    Wilson---Rogne--Wilson--Mulgrew---Matthews

    ---------Brown---Kayal---Ki

    ---------Hooper-----Bangura/Stokes

think this formation would be smart away at atletico, but would rather have cha in for wilson & maybe ledley in for ki :celt_2:

Atletico are vulnerable at the back, we must attempt to attack. I have no doubt that they will score at least one, with the forward line they have I dont think many teams will keep a clean sheet against them.

I like your thinking but he will never do this. Cant try a completely new system against a team as good as them, it will end up back firing. Also it would be putting a * of a lot of pressure on the 2 full backs as they will have guys running at them all night plus be expected to get down the wings when we have the ball.

Although having 2 strikers means we have double the strike force i think they will barely touch the ball cause there arent really any creative minds behind them to link up. Tbh if your going to go with 2 up top we might as well keep to 442 but instruct our FBs to be more restrained so as not to leave any gaps open at the back. You know the likes of Kayal and Brown will protect the defence anyway. Id go with:

    M. Wilson----- K.Wilson----- Rogne----- Mulgrew

    ---------------------Brown--------------------

    ------Ki------------- Kayal-------- Forrest------

    ------------Stokes---------- Hooper------------

Forrest left cause Mulgrew is more likely to stay put and give Forrest freedom to get forward. And Ki right to cover for Wilson getting forward.

Forrest has to start this game his speed might be the only way we can really trouble atletico.
