Any team can get a result against any team now and again. It doesn't mean that they won't get pumped 99% of the time, hence why it's a false equivalence. I agree though that we should be able to have a gameplan to at least compete. The sending off didn't help, but we should be better than we were last night. We've done well in our matches, apart from last night, without getting results. We need to be a bit wiser and know when to play toe to toe, and when to be more pragmatic.

    But it's not common sense.

    They're freak results.

Yes, those things obviously help. But we've had decent performances in Europe over the years and still been on the wrong side of results.

We've had less than zero luck in this campaign. We couldn't buy a freak result.

Cool. I was delighted with our performance against Lazio, just not the result. It doesn't have to be it was a sore result, so we didn't go toe-to-toe with them.

You still said we didn't match Atletico at home... Even though we drew?

It was such a horrible game to watch. The players were lost out there.

The game on Sunday will be interesting. I hope the players can lift themselves.

Don't want to be too harsh but I did not enjoy watching this game of football

They won the game so obviously they've done something right haven't they. And if you're talking about not watching Celtic games then I've missed about 10 games in the last 10 years.

I think deep down we knew that the day the window closed TBH.

I still think we have a chance of getting something from the last 2 games. It's unlikely, but not impossible.

My wondering why a much smaller team with a lesser budget can beat Atletico whilst only a few days later we get trounced by them isn't worth taking seriously? I would have thought it was pretty natural to wonder why. At the end of the day they won didn't they? They must have been doing something right. It's safe to assume they worked hard, defended well and used a bit of game-management simply because if they hadn't it's unlikely they'd have got a result. That is usually how inferior teams get results against better players and my point was only ever that if we start doing these things then we might stop the batterings.

    Ah, assumption.

Let's say you're a fan of Bank Balance United back in 2013, you could look at Celtic and say, "Look! Look at their home results in the CL and the away victory in Moscow. If they can do it, why can't we?" They'd have been daft to read too much into a handful of games, though, as we've won a single home CL game and a single away CL game in the decade since.

Let's go more extreme: are Dortmund, who just beat Newcastle, looking at lower league Saarbrücken as the way forward? "Look! They beat Bayern just a few days before Bayern absolutely bent us over in our own stadium." It's obviously silly; but it's where your logic leads you if you apply it consistently.

All I was trying to put across is that it's points that matter ultimately. We played well at home vs Atletico and did well enough against Lazio, we were the better team against them in fact. But that only makes the fact we lost worse if you see what I mean. We can put in a good display but unless we have points to show it doesn't count for much in a group stage.

Pretty difficult to compare ourselves with Barca though, given the resources.

So you really haven't wondered at any point why such a team can beat Atletico whilst a few days later we get hammered? We had a man sent-off and that obviously makes a difference but if we're honest we still wouldn't have got a result last night. My point about Las Palmas was to show that it's not impossible for us when we play these super-rich clubs with their star players and to put into context our own poor results against them in recent times. Even if we don't win there is no way we should be losing by 4/5/6 goal margins. All most Celtic fans ask when we play clubs with more quality is that we're not humiliated yet we have been on a fairly regular basis in recent times.

How can I know? I haven't seen the game. I know nothing about their squad or what their lineup that day meant. I don't know their model and these results do just happen from time to time (for us too, just think of Barcelona in 2013). I don't see the point in reading anything into it.

To me, it just makes more sense to focus on us and what we're doing wrong and maybe even compare our model with the ideas of teams whose models we know more about, like Brighton or Porto, etc.

Atletico are one of the strongest home sides in the world but can be inconsistent away. You'd have a point if Las Palmas won at the Metropolitano.

How have we been humiliated on a fairly regular basis? Only games we've been beaten easily were away to both Madrid sides. You'd think we'd lost 6-0 every match going by the negativity of some.

Go with me on this guys..... could we not do a 4.. 3... 1... 2 scales ccv Johnston Taylor at the back and holding their defence..... midfield oriley callum iwata and it goes thru them but can also be bypassed as we can have big OH as the one just behind kyogo ... palma as Oh has the height build to hold the ball and bring in kyogo and palma or himself have a shot. I know palma ain't a striker but I think he would do alright. What uz think

I'm not being negative I'm stating fact. In the last 12 or so years we have lost:6-0 vs Atletico. 5-1 vs Real Madrid. 4-0 at home to Leverkusen. 4-1 home to Sparta Prague. 4-1 away to Sparta Prague. 5-0 at home to PSG. 7-1 away to PSG. 7-0 vs Barcelona. 4-1 vs Legia Warsaw. 6-1 vs Barcelona. 4-0 vs Utrecht. You could also add the 5-1 aggregate loss to the mighty Bodo/Glimt depending on how you rate them. I would say that list is fair enough proof of the regularity of our humiliation.
