Need to remember a couple of things here. No CCTV and no Maeda. They probably would have made a difference.

Aston Villa are a very good side. They have top players and a top manager. Prob the best team we have played this season.

The score could have been worse, the fact it wasn't speaks volumes for our resilience. Other seasons we would have been steamrolled. Johnston, Schmeichal, Taylor, Trusty, Johnston all made important tackles and put their body on the line.

Hatate was fantastic in midfield. His passing for the two goals was brilliant. He also could have had a couple of goals himself. Engels will learn more from that game than a dozen matches in the SPFL. Same with Bernardo. Idah might just kick on and show us why we spent so much on him.

The positives of this result out weigh the negatives. We can't spend £100m + on players but we have shown that we can compete and put on a show.

 

Not criticising the team because we have done well. However we are so naive, scales brings the boy down they don’t score the 3rd. There was an instance in the 2nd half, a foul was given against us and we gave them the ball. They took the free kick with 3 of our players out of position, trusty got over to the LH side and made a good interception. Really amateurish.

 

They said at the end it's Madrid or Bayern but I'm not certain how it's decided.

 

Is it just me or does this particular draw feel a bit like finding out if you're about to get your * handed to you by Bruce Lee or Muhammad Ali? I think that's the one thing I'm disappointed about in this campaign, because there are definitely teams we could have competed against in that playoff. If we're honest, we needed to beat Zagreb. I think we'll regret that.

 

Could grumble about our luck for the next round but at the same time without that late goal last week we would've been out of it completely.

Didn't really have the squad depth to ever compete tonight, not helped by letting Kyogo and Valle go before the campaign is over. Hopefully get the required quality before the window closes.

 

Definitely agree maeda ccv, jota and kt in for the likes of Yang, scales, Taylor and hatate would have made a massive difference to the spine of the team

 

Obviously disappointed we lost but we showed bit of spirit to come back from that dreadful start. It's also obvious we need a bit of muscle in midfield, another CH as CCV is injury prone and another striker. Hopefully we get all three plus KT in this window

 

They just said a draw on Friday. Looks like a draw between either us & Man city v Madrid or Bayern

 

This format has to stay. We had a good draw in terms of teams but seen us papped out of groups with teams like this before. The one game against each team seemed to make us raise our game, a league of play offs almost.

To be in the actual playoff with a game to spare is * excellent.

Tonight the team were beat fair and square but not disgraced. There's teams below us who would have been sure the reverse was for sure.

Bring on whoever, I'm * delighted with this year's efforts in the CL. Kick on, wrap up the league and, as always, * THE HUNS

Third goal was a sickener. Had so many chances to deal with it. Really need to get more streetwise and quickly.

Listen it was always going to be an uphill battle with injuries, suspensions and basically no attacking options on the bench.

We showed a lot of fight and resilience after going 2-0 down but that’s the real disappointment. We basically made an uphill battle nigh on impossible by chasing the game from the first minute and making it easy for them to score twice in 5 mins.

There was no need for us to be so high at the start of the game, and the 2 goals so quick together seems to be a hallmark of our away performances in Europe over the years.

We’ve 100% made progress this year but you just wonder where we could have finished up if we didn’t make half of the silly mistakes and unforced errors that we have made.

 

This is what it says on the UEFA website for deciding the group phase. I see they're saying there is a draw - didn't know that was going to happen.
