I wouldn't say we would be cannon fodder. Some fans just need to be realistic and realize getting to the CL group stage is the aim. Anything else is a bonus.

Not really, it's been spoke many a time this summer that "the money is there should we need it or want to spend it." Time to show a bit of ambition.

So spend a couple million more on a player that's not worth it?

Why don't we just offer £5m for Niall McGinn eh? Lots of ambition there! FIVE MILLION.

Pay what he's worth, no more than that.

These guys aren't exactly dross/second rate players though? They're scoring regularly in very good leagues, of course they'll cost a bit more than we are use to paying in recent years.

Yes, whilst failing miserably at International Level. Fact is most of us don't know anything about this guy. Wanting us to splash the cash on. This guy is you wanting to spend just for the sake of it. I'd rather we spend on how much we think he's worth.

Just because the Bundesliga is good, does not mean that every player within it is.

True, but what I am saying is that he is worth it.

I don't really see the problem people here have with what the 2 player's apparent valuation's? It's probably less than the going rate for a player like them.

£5-6m for a player proven in Europa League/Bundesliga (not the Anthony Stokes Europa League proven) at Lech Poznan and then got 12 goals in his first Bundesliga season at Hamburg.

£3-4m for a player proven in Ligue 1, getting 13 league goals and 7 assists at Evian, a team who just avoided relegation.

Exactly considering we want £5 million for a player going into his last year of his contract who scored 19 league goals in the SPL. If we sell Hooper we should just buy them both (dreaming :52: )

P.s I've watch Rudnevs a good few times both for Poznan ( against Juve both times) and Hamburg. He is definetly a £5 million + player to me anyway.

As someone pointed out, we are looking for £5m+ for Hooper who is into his last year of his contract, playing in little old SPL.

So we certainly have a cheek to stick our noses up at players valuations from better leagues, when the valuations don't even seem that bad.

Paying no more than we think somebody is worth is in some situations the right thing to do but at other times just an excuse not to spend the money.

At the end of the day the players are worth what their clubs want to sell them for, if we want the players we have to pay the asking price, the same as every club that tries to take one of our players.

This guy looks * hot, has proven himself in a far superior league and scored goals in Europe with a lesser side, if we want him and they think he will improve the squad and better what we already have, then we have to pay the asking price.

If we don't think he's better than what we already have, why are we even bothering? I know every player has a maximum you'd spend on him but in this day and age and what with our demands for Hooper, this is the sort of money that'll need to be spent.

I know I keep going on about him, but couldn't wee get Hosiner for a cheaper fee than Rudnevs?

I'd love if if we signed either or but Hosiner could be a better option.

This phrase should be coined :56:

I agree 100% with everything you have said there.

Can we get Rudnevs, the Tunisian and Hoisner and sell Stokes? :icon_mrgreen:

Yes, we can. When it doesn'y meet our valuation of them.

Why would we spend £5m on a player we believe is worth £3m, when we could get a player we judge equally as good for £3m. It's a big scouting network we've got, we'll get things our own way or we'll walk.

I don't even know why people would want to buy somebody who isn't worth the money we're paying.

As much as I like Stokes, I would 'Randy Marsh' if that happened:icon_mrgreen::icon_mrgreen:

Well to be honest, if Hooper is worth £5 million with only a year left on his contract, surely Rudnevs is worth the same. The guy scored 12 goals in what I believe to be the best league in the world. Plus he has a fairly decent record in Europe as well.
