    Only 2.4m?

Feels like to me the story is a little bogus. If you look at some of the top young Eredivisie scorers over the last couple seasons they have gone for:

    Wilfried Bony 12m
    Bas Dost 9m
    Jozy Altidore 6m
    Luuk de Jong 12.6m

Why would AZ only sell him for 2.4m ???

I can only guess but it may play a part that he has no place in a poor US-team and seems susceptible to injury.

He only played the full 90 minutes in 17 of his 62 matches from 12/13-13/14, too.

That worries me, I think Finnbogasson and Johannsson are both better than Bas Dost... someone else we were linked with before he moved.

His FIFA switch from Iceland to the United States was only approved in August 2013....

Im assuming going forward he will be a very important part of the US team.

Its going to take double that amount to get him in this window. Its probably going to be a case of trying finbo then after we fail trying to get this guy and its just simply about how high are we willing to go to get him.

Yes, but they have had 7 games since and he came on as a substitute on two occasions and started once where he played as second striker.

While he should definitly improve us upfront we still need a left foot and an aerial presence.

    :smiley-laughing002: What's that make Scotland?

We need to sign him, Nike just renewed their sponsorship deal with the USMNT and I'm sure they will hype him up through commercials over here in the states if he plays for two of the teams they sponsor. Not only will he be a great player on the pitch he could potentially help bring in fans from a growing American football market.

Why are people saying it's going to cost us much more than £2.4m to get him? He has a relatively good scoring record but it's so far within a short time, nothing exceptional.

Finnobgason's record is better and over a much longer period of time.

The De Jong's and Alitdore's as mentioned all cost alot more due to being good for at least 2 seasons.

What does they have to do with each other? :97:

Given that the US has 60 times the population of Scotland its a bit of a stretch in comparison.

he only joined the US national team recently.

and poor side? USA is ranked #14 by FIFA. Won their WC group in 2010 (England finished 2nd). And its a much better and deaper team than it was in 2010. Not a great side. But not poor either.

AZ are playing against Heerenveen again tonight, wouldn't be surprised if someone from Celtic is going over to watch.

Az lost 5-1 to Heerenveen and both as said scored. If they (AZ) continue their bad league form Johannsson might be more inclined to moving.

I expect that is why Lenny wasn't doing the aftermatch interviews, he went to the cup game in midweek so you would expect him to take in the league match also.

I'd love to see an American succeed at Celtic Park.

The huns have had some relatively successful Americans.

I think its time that Celtic signed an American player.

Although I think Johansson is very Icelandic, I think he's spent a good portion of a his life there. But he was born here and I'd like to see him do this country proud at Celtic.
