Are we just a club that constantly under-achieves

Agreed, impressive list of teams to have beaten. We bet Man Utd when they had 1 players on their bench that cost the price of our whole squad - excellent. Every team in the world, at times, will either over-achieve and under-achieve. To expect us to always achieve would be impossible - fans of all teams want to over-achieve and it's impossible for every team to all over-achieve.

 

We've under-achieved for the majority of my life (born in '87), but since we broke Rangers grip in 98, we've done pretty well. We've been crap on the European stage for quite some time, but the major leagues have had a far better grip due to their financial means.

 

Wouldn't say we have been crap at all. We've beaten teams such as Juventus, Porto, Barcelona, Valencia, Celta Vigo, Liverpool, Stuttgart, AC Milan, Skakhtar Donetsk, Man Utd, Benfica. We've reached the last 16 twice (the only team in Scottish history to do so) We done that having earned 9 points in the Group Stage - something we have done on 4 occasions in the past 12 years. We've reached the UEFA Cup Final, taking a very good Porto side (who won the Champions League a year later) to extra-time. We also beat Barcelona over 2 legs - that's remarkable, reaching the quarter final of the UEFA Cup in the process.

Since 1987 we have won a total of 22 trophies, reached the Champions League last 16 twice, UEFA quarter final once and UEFA Cup Final once. Yes, some years we have under-achieved but for many years, due to being financially - stricken because of a combination of an utterly useless Board of Directors and a mega-rich, cheating hun team. Did we under-achieve in those years? Or did we have no chance? If we had won any title in that period we'd have been over-achieving majorly. We've had dissappointments, as have every team in the footballing world. It happens. I reckon we are probably in the top ten most successful teams of the past 50 years. We've never consistently under-achieved.

 

In general no, but this season yes.

To say we are a team that constantly under achieves is complete bollocks imo.I'll agree that over the past few years we have had great opportunity's to win a lot more than we did and put the huns to the sword but a lookm at our history will tell you we our anything but a team that constantly under achieves

 

Of course, we really should have won La Liga far many more times. You can only win the trophies you enter. Until 1990ish, the Scottish League had very strong sides in it. Dundee Utd reached 2 European Finals, knocking out Barcelona. Aberdeen won the European Cup Winners Cup and the Super Cup. Rangers won the UEFA Cup Winners Cup. Kilmarnock reached the Inter-Cities Fair Cup semi the year we won the European Cup. Scottish football was a good league, highly respected across Europe. We won the title and many trophies in it in most of the past 50 years. We had several good challengers, some who had spent more than us (Rangers) whislto thers had really good sides. Where is the consistent under-achievement there?

 

Talkin pish bout la liga. So let me get this right.......by your rationale, we are one of the elite top ten clubs in world football because we won what is effectively a two horse race so many times. Lunacy of the highest order.

 

Nope, I said we are in the top ten most successful clubs in the world, something that literally can't be disputed in any way. You're the one saying we haven't won trophies of any quality - how can we consistently win such trophies when we play in a poor league? Say what you like, but both the EPL and La Liga have been 2 horse races for years now. You have yet to provide any evidence to suggest we have consistently under-achieved.

Nope I was enjoying winning our 43rd League title, partying and all sorts!! If losing 2 games of football means we have consistently under-achieved for the past half-century then so be it!

 

Here's an idea, actually read my comments through. I have already stated that we have under-achieved over the past 4 years. That is something that is utterly undeniable. To suggest, however, that we are a club that constantly under-achieves is just laughable. I'm sure when you run out of points to make, you'll just resort to insulting me again...

 

So finally you have agreed that we are under achivevers. Phew :bbpd:
