I disagree with the stream of thought that being "Celtic to the core" makes you a good manager. But I still want Lenny to do well and prove my doubts wrong

Argued from the begining that if Levein was the best we were looking at then why not give lennon the chance.

Levein has been shown up in his current position, while neil lennon has shown he `s up to the job. I understrand that people will feel let down by the games in europe but we weren`t ready for the braga game away ( a trip to america even though important in terms of finance put pay to our first leg chances). Yes they may not have been particularly outstanding but done the damage in the first leg, as for Utrecht that was a dissapointment and prob the only time I feel Neil Lennon got it wrong ( two debateable penalties in 20 mins and no linesman involved).

On Sunday night I spoke to a fellow celtic fan in my local pub, during the summer before lennon was appointed we had several discussions on who we wanted as manager. I said Lennon while he wanted somone more experienced, on sunday after the bus arrived back from dundee he said all his doubts were wrong.

I believe Neil Lennon is the right man for the job and the doubters are begining to see this too.

I still think it was an unjustifiable gamble putting a guy with no experience in charge of a huge club as his first job. Even WGS had had about 8 seasons managing in the EPL and was a battle hardened manager. MON had nearly as much experience in the EPL and a long experience at a lower level. Even Mogga had championship, SPL and brief EPL experience. So, Lenny was on a totally different scale in terms of being raw as a manager. The rawest since Barnes. Personally, even if it works out, I dont like our fate being in the hands of a gambler, especially when his last gamble was Mogga. So, I stand by how I felt, he shouldnt have been near the job.

That said, although gambling is a fools game it sometimes pays. There is still a chance Lenny could be a rare exception. So far what has impressed me most is a decent eye for a player.

He seems to have avoided trying to be a MON clone with long balls and muscle. His style is like WGS's sides which is maybe not surprising seeing as he played in them and was then his assistant manager for a year and a bit. However, I think there are a lot of games where we look like the WGS team on its bad days too - a lot of huff and puff. The team looks fragile in the spine to me, and I think we have been saved by the very low standard of the SPL this year. So I think the jury is out in terms of how he has the team playing. I think we will have a much better idea after the OF game.

Lennon's style is nothing like Gordon Strachan's sides. I haven't fell asleep during one single Celtic match this season. :icon_mrgreen:

I wanted someone like Hitzfeld but I have to say Lennon has impressed, I still think he has to show what he can do against Rangers and in Europe but from what Ive seen I think he will go from strength to strength, Europe came too quicky this year.
If we get a result this weekend it will be immense to have Lennon at the forefront, The Dobs will be hurting big time.

    I wouldn't say I doubted him.

I believed we needed someone with experience but after reading his interview after the Ross County game I knew he was the man to drive the club towards the title.

He's a scruff of the neck kinda guy and I suppose it's good that he has no experience, there's nothing clouding his vision. It's new and he's honest about everything he does. It's refreshing.

You get the feeling when we get beat he feels it as much as the fans do. Maybe Mr Strachan and Mogga would have felt it but they would still have went home to their nice house and looked over things. Lenny probably can't sleep half the time.

That's the impression I get from him anywhere, it obviously has a lot to do with the fact that not so long ago he wore the hopes.

    Keep it up Neil.

If it doesn't work it won't be due to a lack of passion on his part and he'll always be a Parkhead legend to me.

On the domestic front a 100% record, you can't ask for more than that, it was always going to be a big ask to achieve anything in europe, a newly assembled squad thrown straight into qualifiers wasn't an ideal situation...........

You make the article sound as if people wanted Lennon to fail. Personally i will reserve judgement until Sunday afternoon. This is harsh but Lennon has failed in a few huge games already (Ross County, Utrecht etc) so to suggest there shouldnt be any doubt cos we have won a few league games against teams we should be beating is a bit daft imo.

Of course not and I don't think, correct me if i'm wrong that many people were gutted about missing out on the Europa league.

Champions league maybe but we need the title this year. I can go without the europa league this year.

More time to gel as a team. 6 days training together before an old firm game. That's stuff money can't buy.

The league is priority especially with such a new team.

read my post again - i said he has failed in a few big games, its indisputible. My opinion doesn't 'suck', why create an article if your going to belittle counter-arguments with 'your opinion sucks'? You might disagree, fair enough if you do as forums are about debate, but don't claim my opinion 'sucks' cos its different from yours.

What if Lennon loses on Sunday and we hit a bad patch of form - should i still say he's the right man for the job if it goes * up. After all Mowbray and Barnes made decent league starts. The Old Firm game is Lennon's first major test, hopefully he passes, but its far too early to be judging his career as Celtic manager.

I first thought he was the right man for the job.
    Then I had doubts.
Then I thought he was the man again.
Then we had that ridiculous, disgraceful and frankly pathetic result in Holland.
Since then his team and his new signings have done extremely well. Kind of wonder about his persistence with certain players, for example Samaras (!?!?), but it looks like he might have what it takes to win the SPL.
Very happy at the moment but still feel disappointed about the whole European situation. Probably for the best seeing as the league is the priority this year and he had to practically change the entire team in the summer.
This Sunday will be VERY interesting.

It is structured similarly. When everyone is fit he seems to prefer a 4-4-2 with two wee wingers (at least one of whom is on the 'wrong side'), the game is basically a short passing possession game with most creativity being wide. Even has similar weaknesses like central defense. Its got a lot more of the basic idea of WGS's sides than the MON one which people wrongly assumed he would be like. Certainly is absolutely nothing like the successful pre-Seville MON side. Completely different structure, stye and type of personnel. I think the similarity is clear with WGS's sides. The only difference is a lot of people prefer Lenny when he has won nothing ever to a man who is our 2nd most successful manager in our history. That is crazy IMO.

I was at his first home match a manager last year aginst Kilmarknock,I have posted before that on that day as soon as Keane scored first goal all the players ran over to him,in my opinion the players want to play for him and I think he is doing a great Job

got to agree. Failure in all the big games when something was on the table that mattered means it is totally fair to have doubts remaining. This will be his first properly meaningful OF game when both teams want it as much. I am fairly impressed with Lenny so far but he will stand or fall on the SPL title this season and with the standard of the SPL appallingly low even compared to a couple of seasons ago, it will come down to the OF games.
