did the ira murder people, yes they did,did the inla murder people, yes they did.did uda/uvf/uff murder yes.did british soldiers murder people yes they did,* sunday is a prime example.i didnt say they did not,can you admit that that the ira did murder people,as did the others can you admit that?also i dont spin,i say what i feel.politicos are hijacking my club,i also feel i am debating with very young people sometimes who dont realise what real life is all about,a lot of pro republican stuff is spouted by people not old enough to have seen the news reports from the troubles never mind having experienced them.and the poppy is and always has commemerated those who died in all wars,i can remember that from my youth,i can remember talking to korean veterans,i remember my father and his italian friend who was captured fighting the british and stayed on after the war ,and he wore his poppy proudly,i always thought of the ordinary people when the armistice bell sounded,my own grandfather was the son of a catholic irishman who joined up at maryhill barrracks in 1915 and was captured on the somme,he wore his poppy with pride, and i keep his medals with pride.thousands of catholic irish men joined up and fought in both wars, the man who was celtic for the first 50 years was the son of a british army sergeant, willie maley, who allowed recruitment at half time in celtic games in the war,he was also fiercely pro royal family.was he a traitor to celtic,he certainly is part of our culture and heritage.thousands upon thousands of ex servicemen throughout celtics history have stood on the terracings and supported the team, were they all traitors to your cause,no of course they were not.it may be your cause it is not mine,we can agree to disagree, but i live in scotland and i am a scottish celtic fan,i am from a family with british army descendants and irish descendants, iam not ashamed of either.but if you think the ira didnt murder anyone then it is you who are spinning in the most fantastical way worthy of peter mandelson

For me not annoying as they are trying to bring some much needed atmosphere to the ground. What I cannot stand is the republican nonsense that tarnishes our good name and allows the detractors to have a field day. That is beginning to creep back in and the sooner it is stamped out the better and if that means we lose the GB then so be it. We all agree the club is bigger than anyone individual or group so why should the GB get any preferential treatment. I've no doubt a lot of the recent anti Celtic stuff is fuelling the fires but we need to move on IMO. Even putting that aside do you think the EPL will want away fans spouting off pro-IRA songs if we ever get down there, I don't think so.

I'm with dandoyle here. I take it the members of the GB (or perhaps all?) who were part of the infamous banner also appreciate that the actions of the IRA would shame all the devils in *, and they would be equally vociferously against that organisation as they are against the British Army?

I serious doubt that is true.

Back on topic, yes the GB are frustrating me with their ill-thought out politics which unfortunately to the masses is apparently the mouth-piece of every single Celtic fan.

But I cannot deny they bring an incredible atmosphere to CP - which leads me to why the enthusiasm to engage in divisive politics WITHIN the ground. They should stick to what they do best and that's supporting the FOOTBALL team.

The "republican nonsense" has always been there and will always be there. It's a nonsense to say it's "beginning to creep back in".

First time I have noticed it to any great extent at Parkhead for a long time but perhaps I am mistaken. I agree that it has never gone away but perhaps less in your face. We could argue that one all day but it's not really my point.

First off Dan it is you who has tried to shift the focus onto the IRA, well it was half decent tactic that may well have paid off with someone else. It is a well known fact that the IRA commited murderous acts..................however that has no bearing on the topic at hand. Should Celtic have a symbol commemorating IRA men and wimmen then that is a conversation we might have.

The rest of your response is nonsense mixed with views that while I can respect them do not take into account certain realities.

First the nonsense about Celtic players and war. Considering that conscription was in force well these guys really didn't have a choice in the wars. As for Maley's supposed pro-Royalty..........are you seriously advocating that we should all follow suit and become slavish devotee's to these in-breeds, surely not. Should a Celtic player indulge in paedophilia is it ok to follow? or worse Kenny Miller joined the huns..........should we do that?

You and yours may well have taken the Kings/Queens half crown and went away to help subjigate Irishmen or other colonised subjects..........good for you but not for me thanks. I know which side I am on there. And as for remembering the poor * led to the slaughter of WW1 and those who fought Nazism in WW2 Kudos. However we know as you have admitted it is not solely about that and if it were we would not be doing this. I respect you for honouring yir ain but not unquestioningly Dan, therein lies the road to potentially condoning murder, torture and abuse.

She who must be obeyed wants here computer back so I will catch you again Dan.

And another point it's a nonsense to say it will always be there because let's be honest none of us can predict the future.

Dan is for a lot of things, turning the focus on the IRA from the British army is only one of them.

Your argument may have merit if those in charge of Celtic were putting onto the hoops symbols commemorating dead Republicans..............they haven't and won't so it is not a valid argument.

IRA atrocities are well known but British ones are kept mostly hidden by a compliant British media who in any event like now take the sides of 'their boys and heroes' It took 30 years to get the truth about the bleeding obvious from the Brits over * Sunday, it is only the tip of the iceberg. A choice between the oppressers and the oppressed is no choice really if you are from the community background of the oppressed.

Well if the argument is *both are evil* then why is a poppy on a shirt worse than hundreds or thousands of people chanting support for an organisation responsible for deaths and maiming of the innocent?

Poppy on shirt for a game or week in week out chants?

To the admin this is on topic because it's largely the reason many fans/me are disillusioned with the actions of the GB.

Not in the slightest. Think the GB bring a much needed spark to Parkhead and without them the place is like a graveyard. Think they're fantastic! However the poppygate saga is getting old now and the media should spend their time concentrating more on the comical SFA. Back to the point however- IMO the GB have been and continue to be excellent.

the poppygate saga allowed the media to forget the sfa,and come out from behind the dougie mcdonald affair to attack us,and that was done by the gb,if they stick to football they are great,if they go for political posturing they should take it elsewhere or be banned, and onyboy, the reason we can turn to the subject of the ira is that the gb sing about them every week without fail, they bring it up,i am a republican by nature, not a physical force irish republican,i am not pro royalist,i was pointing out to you that even in the celtic hierarchy in the earliest days there were differing opinions, you cannot class us all as pro republican, pro ira supporters, and the gb are upholding that, nowadays the opposite is true, thats why a couple of hundred people at the most are in that section singing those songs, and the rest of the stadium choose not to.if you are british,ie resident in the uk,its odds on you will have had someone in the army in your past, possibly not if you are irish,we are a very mixed bag of fans now, poles, irish, english, scots, african, protestant, catholic,no faith, you cannot tar us all as republican irish.the other mob say you cant be a rangers fan unless you are W.A.S.P,are we to go down that route, you cant be a tim, unless you are an irish republican gb card carrying member,i think not

They dont choose not to sing these songs they were banned from doing so.Like it or not the majority of people at CP are going to be less sympathetic towards the British army than at other clubs accross the country and with good reason. The Green Brigade showed many fans wont let this attempted Hibernianisation of our club happen.

again your speaking for 45000 odd people at the aberdeen game for instance, your argument is that the majority of people at celtic park would sing ira songs at cp if allowed to,honestly?,ill tell you this, and i would stake my life on it,45000 people know its morally wrong now to sing those songs,i dont doubt that they might not be sympathetic to the army, but to say they are all pro ira is a huge leap, most people at celtic park when i worked there, when fergus mccann banned the songs quickly realised those songs had no place at a modern sports arena, songs supporting your team do have, songs of hate,or pro ira dont have especially when the future of the game is pro family

I voted No, without the GB Celtic park would be like a mortuary, albeit i think some of there protests could be left outside of football altogether.

If you chose to sing these songs great their not illegal - quite the opposite. If you chose not to sing great - its all about choice.
Alot of these songs are ballads of a nation reconised throughout the world. Again there not some kind of terrorists songs but legitimate songs of a nation. (which by the way have traditionally song at cp going back longer than anyone on this site can remember).
Do not allow yourself to be marginlised.
    Well done the gb.

i think they add to the match atmosphere, but they sully themselves with the behaviour that is being reported!
not only by the laptop loyal but by fellow supporters some of the antics ive heard (the burger van/kiosk at tynecastle incident) are outrageous!!

support the team leave the 2bit politics at the turnstile!!

we are getting away with it domestically, but in europe we could be hammered if the GB are allowed to run riot.
i fear there will be an incident abroad and the good name of the celtic fans will be dragged through the mud, like the durty fellas across the city due to the animalistic behavior of what is a minority of the GB.
overall yeah they do a good job for morale but like any ultras movement there is bound to be a sinister side also!!!
