Let's start with the lies that drunken neddish behaviour was involved, simply untrue, I find the views on here at times out of kilter with my perception of what a Celtic fan is but to try and emulate the laptop loyals lies about drunken thuggery goes too far. I sit next section along and down and was hassled by stewards when we got in @ 2.30 to produce tickets. Myself and others pushed past the stewards and let them know that we knew what was going on and would be supporting the boys in the GB if they were hassled, the scene had been set. I had several conversations in the next few minutes with fans about the bleeding obvious, none of whom I knew, all were angry. The increased prescence of stewards was designed to intimidate the GB. When it blew up it was handled proportionately by them, should the police or stewards have escalated the situation then there was the potential for a riot, common sense prevailed. One guy beside me shouted something against the GB and was roundly shouted down, from my estimation the support for the GB is overwhelming.

Can I also say to those who are madly against the GB because of their politics, this is what our club has always been about. They did not initiate this whole drama with Baron Reid...........politics was brought to them yet there is no condemnation of the club which allows me to believe that it is just the outworkings of conformists minds. Apart from the poster Hammer I have yet to read anyone setting out their views and arguing their case, I disagree with him but good on him for standing his ground and speaking out. It is totally facile to have a go at people for being interested in 'political pish' and condemn them outright just because they care and have taken a position.

I understand the position of some people on here when they say that the GB should not speak for everyone, well it is a physical impossibility to encompass everyone's point of view, and from reading some I wouldn't want what amounts to potentially servile pro-British views prevailing at Celtic. Whether you like it or not the GB have became the conscience of our club, they are fighting the 'good fight' and more importantly they are doing it for all the right reasons.

The guy in the Sun should hang is head in shame, what an apologist *. Fans defend one of their own getting removed is apparently comparable to hundreds of huns rioting and kicking in policemen. What a disgrace to the Celtic fans, embarassed by that comparison.

I know, full of apologists and the 'sit-down, be-quiet' brigade. His comments will be more of an embarassment to the club than anything the Green Brigade will ever do.

I think the GB should just sit and be like the rest of the fans for one game, and show them what it is really like without them.

We will all need help if the GB are the conscience of the club as one poster on here suggested.
Stick to singing, add to the atmosphere and maybe watch what is going on, on the park sometimes, is my advice to the section. I refer to the section, as it is clear that the GB are in there hiding somewhere, pretending that the section are all GB. It is quite clever to assemble a crowd around a few activists and let others imagine that they are one and the same.
It suits someone's purpose to remain anonymous, I'm always suspicious of anyone, who is not willing to stand up and be counted.
Section 111 is not the GB, it is what the GB are using as camouflage.
The majority who are in the section are there to create an atmosphere and to support the team, continue to do so, but be aware of those around you with ulterior motives.

Its just annoying they are the only ones who sing, the green brigade should be the whole celtic support,if not their politics their passion. Its embarassing i reckon that theres only a section of the support that make an atmosphere.

every home game the gb are been hassled and intimidated by the stewards with instructions from the board, so is it any wonder the gd react back, wouldnt we all react in some way if someone was constantly in your face telling you what you can and cant do, without the gb home games would be like been in a libary, I can understand some people not liking the gb but the divide between our support is getting a bit out of hand if u ask me

Leave the politics to the politicians and if you want to join in, find out who your local MSP/MP is and get in contact. You will not change the world by shouting political chants at a football game. Come to Celtic Park, watch the team you love and sing the songs to spur the team on. Everyone is entitled to enjoy the match their own way, but bringing politics to football isn't beneficial for anyone, it won't change anything and conversely, it can provoke the SFA to land bans/fines on our club!

If the GB can adhere to the rules enforced by Celtic, then they are more than welcome and they do create a great atmosphere!

I disagree, a football and politics go hand in hand. Look at the media attention the Poppy banner got - far more effective than the same 300 people standing outside an M.P.'s office - it was shown on UK News, and probably further afield. Celtic can't have it both ways - they can't tell fans to leave politics at the door yet then agree to displaying the poppy on the jersey - anyone who says the Poppy isn't political need to open their eyes. So Celtic can bring politics into the club when it suits them but the fans can't?

It's a tribute to fallen soldiers who fought for the country we are (like it or not) part of. The same as we pay a minutes silence tribute to people who die in any relation to the club. I can bet your * there's plenty of Celtic fans and even players that were in the army and were killed.

The reason that banner got so much attention is because it's an absolute disgrace and everyone was laughing at us for it.

Ah yes if it only it was as simple as that. I'm all for commemorating the Brave men who died fighting for the cause in WWI and WWII. The problem I, along with a vast number of Celtic fans, have with the Poppy is that it is a charitable organisation which is helping to fund benefits for soldiers who have fought in illegal wars such as Iraq or Afghanistan, or for soldiers who were in Ireland. Surely you must appreciate that many British Army troops killed innocent civilians in Ireland? A large part of our support is from Ireland and may have had family members killed in such a way and are therefore unhappy to see it supported by their own club. Yes ok, we are a Scottish club and i'm proud to be a Scot, but the club themselves use the Irish card to sell flags, scarves, DVD's etc in their stores.

This has gone slightly off topic, imo the Green Brigade are doing a fine job and I can't criticise any of their actions to date.

I didn't see the incident on Saturday so don't know if drink was involved this time, but I have seen drunken behaviour in the GB in previous games, in a crowd that size you are going to get a few drunken numpties, that's why people talk about drunken neddish behaviour because it does it happen.

Celtic fans are not a homogenous group, we all have our own thoughts, opinions, beliefs, politics and views on the world, to try and get a perception of what a Celtic fan is, is imo a complete waste of time, there is only one thing that all Celtic fans have in common and that's our support of the club everything else is down to individual choices, upbringing, environment etc so it's impossible to say what a Celtic fan is, as we are all different.

I've already stated the club shouldn't have forced players to wear the poppy, I can disagree with the club doing that and disagree with the GB stance on it as well.

I have my own political views, I don't expect other Celtic fans to agree with me just because I support Celtic, however on talking to members of the GB the overwhelming impression I got from them was that if I didn't think the same as them then I wasn't a "true fan", that annoyed me. The GB themselves don't particularly annoy me, however the individual members I have spoken to certainly have annoyed me.

Personally I think they should stick to Celtic songs only as like I said earlier the only one thing that connects all Celtic fans is Celtic, everything else is down to an individual and therefore everything else has the ability to cause division within the support, we don't all have to be Republicans, we don't all have to have an Irish background or love for Ireland, we don't all have to be left wing socialists or liberals the only thing we all have to have is a love of Celtic.

If people want to be pro-British and support Celtic that is entirely up to them there is nothing to stop them.

The GB are not the conscience of the club, they spout their own political opinions and expect everyone else to give them a pat on the back for doing so, well I hate to break it to them but everyone has their own conscience and everyone is entitled to their own opinion without the GB pretending to represent us all.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

As I've said umpteen times before, stick to the Celtic songs as they are great and add tremendous atmosphere, but don't encourage division within our support in a crowd of 45-60k it's impossible to represent everyone's political view, so they shouldn't try and pass of their views as the view of the "typical" Celtic fan, as there is no such thing, we are a group of individuals connected through the great team we support.

Appreciate what you're saying, but the poppy is to support the soldiers, who have to follow orders, not the men making the decisions at the very top. I think it's very important to distinguish between the two. I do hear what you're saying though, there's obviously a lot of emotion about it and it must be difficult for the decision-makers at Celtic to get it right, just not sure that the banner was the best way to protest it.

Great post DanniGhirl.
Anything that helps generate an atmosphere during games is welcome and there have always been sections of the support who have been more vocal than others. As a younger man I stood in the jungle as that was the place to be. 111 is now reckoned as the place to be. However, the difference these days is that there are those with an agenda that has nothing whatsoever to do with football. Stick to football and supporting the team and I applaud and support you. Hide behind others with undeclared agenda's and I am suspicious. If my information is correct then GB have about 40 or 50 members but are happy to have others stand beside them to create an illusion of larger numbers. There are obviously reasons for this behaviour, please declare yourselves and your agenda. You managed to come to some kind of arrangement with the club, but now all you want to do is criticise those that reached the agreement with you. Isn't this hypocritical?

The phrase 'hang your head in shame' is getting on my nerves. I see it every day aimed at fellow tims and it's doing my nut in. Change the * record.
