Never mind headers, what about diving headers, some of Larsson's were bullets.

Glad a lot of you feel the same. I rekon we could have so many more goals in us if we had that in our game. We have wingers and full backs that overlap and we do get crosses in.

Lets get a head on the end of them. Start training the bhoys to be fearless in the air and to attack the ball with the nut.

Agree. I remember under MON we used to score loads of headers. We had Thommo who was a superb set-piece taker, and we had 3 strikers of real aerial quality in Sutton, Hartson and Larsson and 2 CBs who were really strong in the air in Balde and Varga (who if I remember rightly scored around 12 goals in his first full season- shows just how big headers were in our game.) Obviously Stokes and Hooper aren't the best in the air, but our CBs don't seem to do enough from an attacking point of view with headers either. Maj in particular can't direct headers to save his life. Never seen a player miss so many good headed chances.

We miss the power of the MON era without a doubt.

Interesting to note Lennon is more Mowbray than O'Neill in his style. Not in terms of success but definitely in terms of the way he envisions the team being eventually.

During the MON and WGS times, there was an increased awareness of the bad weather conditions affecting playing grounds in late autumn and winter. Such conditions meant long balls and headers were the most sensible option. And so, we had forwards capable of playing that way(Sutton, Hartson, JVoH, Samaras- was also good in the air until that one injury seemed to make him bad all of a sudden). That affected our heading skills positively. Also, a header-proficient forward was marked tighter by the opposing defense in set pieces, because he had the most of goal-scoring skills. This left CB-s marked not as tight, and then they could score too.
Since our forwards pose little danger in the air, the defense is free to pile up the pressure on our CB-s, and they get marked too tightly.

    Does anyone else miss headers?

What do you mean, apart from Madge?

Well Sammy tends to miss a lot too, but mostly it's Madge - in either box, he's not fussy.

I think he means goals scored from headers overall.

Last one I can remember was Hoopers tap in in the Dundee game.
