Hooper's only goal so far was a header although it was from a yard out.

You'd think someone of Maj's height would be winning loads of headers......but he's a liability in both boxes when a corner or cross is put in.

You'd think he'd be solid as well, but it turns out he's a giant * * lol.

Thing with Maj and Larsson is they are total opposites.

Larsson was very very brave and for an average height (5'10") he had a great ability to leap - out jumping CB's 6 inches taller than him.
Maj is not brave with his head - he will put his foot in and get his body in front of a shot, but not his head. He is tall (6'4") but cannot leap off the ground very well.
Maybe its his age now, as that is one of the things that big centre halfs lose with age is their ability to get off the ground along with their pace.

I was thinking this the other day - we are * poor at corners.
MON and WGS days i think we may have been spoilt a bit with Sutton, Hartson, Balde, Larsson, McManus, JVoH and Caldwell all very good at attacking a corner.

Ki always takes them though, and he's tallest in the team. It matters about height a little bit. They need practise more on the headers.

Me too, especially when it's Majstorovic coming up and you know he probably won't make it back in time :56:

don't forget Big Jan. Most of his goals were headers and he scored a fair few.

The header Majstorovic had today was incredible, he was completely free at the back of the 6 yard box, all he had to do was put a simple header back across goal but what happens with big 50p peice heid instead, the ball skies off his shiny dome and ends up out at the edge of the penalty box. :31:

As for Maj, I can't remember what game it was, but I distinctly recall him attacking a ball with his head at a corner in the six-yard box and sending it out of the area!

Only problem was... it was in the opposition box and it was OUR corner!

It was a complete and utter brain-fart and caused quite a giggle on the old 606 forum!

He had obviously just forgotten what was happening as he even shaped up at it defensively... VERY BIZARRE!

In todays game the only time we looked dangerous at a corner was when we took a short one that ended up at Forrest top of the box and he was able to drive into the box and force Sampson into a good save.
Quite simply the biggest problem for me with our corners and free kicks is defensively none of our defenders attack the ball with any kind of quality other then Loovens. Stokes and Hooper are good players on the ground but both are poor in the air while we have no threat from midfield in the air. In fact in the entire squad the only player who is consistently dangerous from a set piece is Loovens. Or Mulgrew if it a free kick set up for a shot on goal.
We quite possibly should be looking for more variations on corners like the short one today in particular.

Today, when corners were in range of our tall players, they never managed to get a shot in. The defense always beats them to the ball or makes their headers go massively off target.

Majstorovic should have scored from that header in the first half today. Great wee ball in from Mulgrew's free kick and he put it straight over the bar and into the stands.

I don't see headers as a big thing. As long as we get the goals, that's all that really bothers me. We done that today and we will hopefully keep doing that :50:

even mcdonald scored headers and hes a wee elf. it really annoys me we never score headers.

i still do think a 6 foot plus striker is the way to go a la BBJ, JVoH and sutton

mulgrew is a good header but hes often the one taking the set piece
