    .

What would finally convince me he is as good as we can get is if he improves his hold up play and strength at fending off defenders. Much smaller guys than him like Hooper and Skippy had that ability to make defenders bounce off them and hold off the physical challenge. He is a reasonable size so he should definately be able to improve that. Also would like him to improve in the air.

he could always grow wings and fly through the air and maybe turn his * to goal and fart the ball in or maybe you might get what you wish for and stoksey gets so fed up with all the knockers and just gives up

Glad to see this thread up! Wish we'd get a song about him and get belting it during games.. We sing Hoopers praise, yet stokes has in my opinion been more important this season for us than hooper, though they need to be played together!

Great goalscorer, and i love his attitude, he moans like * if he doesn't get the ball.. Goes in a huff if he doesn't score:50: Thats what u want to see from strikers.. Stokesy has been up there with our top performers this season, and unnoticed by alot of the support.

Something that seems to happen on this board a lot is to slate players when they are off form (for whatever reason--health, lack of playing time, etc.). I think to properly evaluate a player you must look at a body of work, and Stokes body of work at Hibs and here has been pretty tremendous. He's one of the finest strikers the SPL has ever produced. He's not world class (not saying he won't be) but he's pretty darn good. Big plus having him in the side this year. Can't see how you can leave him out of the team from here on out.

he frustrates me tbh, especially when he throws his hands up in the air and looks like he is about to take tantrum when he doesnt receive the ball!

Jmc that is a good post and really true, we have seen it with maybe 4/5 players this season already, and some of them are taking a bashing when they weren't playing badly but alright.
Players to take a bashing have been Stokes, Ledley, Ki, Forster and to a certain extent Big Maj on some occasions, people were focusing on the then instead of a greater length of time.

Some of the comments for these players have been pretty ludicrous yet i suppose its what celtic fans have come to expect of players, our standards have increased over the past two months, we expect commanding performances every game now because of how well this team has done recently and whenever a player doesn't quite perform to those high standards they are slaughtered. It can be a very good thing to have high standards but every player experiences some form of dip in form over a season.

    100% right :50:

Look at last year.... Who was scoring on a consistent basis for us last year? (before we got Keane) Nobody really. Not Fortune :31:. Not Sammy. Not even Skippy.

We would have paid anything for a guys like Stokes and Hooper last year. We are lucky to have them both.....

stokesy is a great player, only thing i can think of that would improve his game is to have a liitle more upper strength like hooper, other than that wouldnt swap him for any striker valued less than £5m. not that he needs the upper body strength but its just more ammo in his locker. the more ammo he has the more dangerous he will become..
stokesy n hooper have a great partnership long may it continue

Really hope to see him get a start up front with Hooper against the huns.

Purely under-rated player. More than a striker. Without knowing the stats I would imagine he would be in the top 3 assists aswell. Thinks outside the box and not afraid to try things. Good player.

    Anthony Stokes!!

Anthony Stokes has been on FIRE!! this season and is our top goal scorer, but i wonder whether or not he deserves a start against the huns. I know in the 3-1 loss to the huns in October he didnt play too well but he has been in unstoppable form since then and scored in his last 6 games tht he started in. I personally think he would be an important player if we started him and if we start him then ultimately we should start hooper along side him meaning the huns for the first time would feel the wrath of the hooper/stokes wonderful partnership. What do you guys think??

I personally think while the formation we are playing at the moment against them works we should stick with that. Stokes can be used as a good sub for coming on in these games to score goals if needed but he's not as good at holding the ball up as Samaras.

I'm a big fan of Sammy's but Hooper and Stokes should remain our normal strike pairing. We don't need a player like Samaras against weaker opponents and Stokes and Hooper are deadly together.

Stokes always had an eye for the goal. It was his attitude that was the problem.

I would revert back to Hooper and Stokes and put Sammy on the bench until the next OF game.

I'm finding myself agreeing with that.
I noticed today when Stokes came on he was all smiles at Gary Hooper so there is a good bond there between the players, no jealousy. I think it is in our interests to foster good relations and team spirit between Hooper, Stokes and Samaras, as all three are going to be needed in rotation
with all the big games coming up.
