His head went up after the goal and he played with the confidence that we know he can play with. I still say people would be slating him if McGregor didn't * up and the penalty decision went the other way.

Two things that happen very very often. I would rely on Stokes to score before Samaras any day of the week.

You seem to have Stokes being unable to play as a loan striker confused with Stokes being unable to play without Hooper.

Hooper had * all to do with his wonder-goal against Hibs, or his class free-kick last night. Or his goal of the season against the huns.

Stokes is a brilliant player. If he hadn't flopped in England everyone would be agreeing. I have no doubt that he could do very well in the EPL now. He's proved he can score against Rangers and us, so why couldn't he succeed in England?

Some players just suit different types of football. Shevchenko, Forlan and Crespo have failed in England.

Doesn't mean they are/were bad players.

To be honest i think Hooper is alot better than Stokes. Dont get me wrong Stokes is ok and has done decent for us so far but if we were playing in something like the Champions League i think he'd be out of his depth.

My ideal scenario would be for us to ship out Sammy and Murphy and sign someone of real quality who costs more than the usual £1m (someone in the mould of Jelavic who the huns signed for £4m) with Stokes still getting regular games but being on the subs bench for the real big ones

I thought Stokes and Hooper's link up play together last night was superb. The 2 of them look like a deadly combination and what a brilliant free kick from Stokes. Given their both only 22 and have hardly played that many games together you really feel there is so much more to come from both of them too.

jelavic is * compared to stokes, stokes is a far superior player better all round and a much better finisher and goal scorer. the huns got mugged paying 4 million for that diddy

I disagree. I thought he looked top class when we played against Rapid last year. And he had got off to a good start at Rangers before he got injured which he's only back from. Although it pains me to say it, i think he's a step up from Stokes. I think Hooper is too though. (I still think Stokes is ok tho)

Stokes is class, and still very young at the moment. I can't remember who exactly said it, but when he was younger there was talk of him becoming the next Alan Shearer. He flopped in England, but people aren't remembering that he was only 19/20 years old at the time. He has bags of potential, and is already a big player for us. I know its still early, but I have a feeling that he will go on to score 100+ goals for Celtic. I'm actually glad that he flopped in England, because that means that EPL clubs won't come looking for him when he's doing well up here. :50:

I think Stokesy will score a 100+ goals for Celtic too as he is a goal machine.

He will be up there with Big John, the King and Sutty soon.:50:

Stokes is a squad player. He shouldn't ever be considered a certainty to play. This season the quality of player has risen with the signings of Kayal and Izzaguire. I still feel we need to do some more shrewd business in the summer to land a quality striker to partner Hooper if we get the champions league next year. Just not convinced Stokes has the quality to shine on the big stage. Not convinced Lennon is either to be honest. That's why he benched him against the huns.

I agree mate. If u look at an earlier post of mine that's what i said. Get rid of Sami and Murphy and push boat out and sign striker at £3m or £4m in summer to partner Hooper. Stokes would be 3rd choice and still play a decent amount of games in the year but for the big ones, barring injuries, wouldn't be starting

You would be mad to break up Hooper and Stokes. Their partnership is electric. Thank * it's Lenny in charge.

Every Celtic player is a squad player, no one is guaranteed a starting slot.

Stokes is one of the first names on the team sheet just now though after the January he has had. He has shoved the finger up at his doubters with 6 goals in 4 and a couple of match winning performances. To suggest he isn't good enough for Celtic is laughable.

Be mad to break it up cos of what we have as an alternative but if there was a top class striker in the squad i'd have no problems dropping Stokes. He's not a bad player and he's been ok for us but he's no world beater. U need to put in perspective mate, he was good last nite and scored a great free kick but i wouldn't call their partnership since they've joined electric

Stokes and Hooper are hitting it off together ,agreed,

If you took away Stokes from Hooper ,Hooper might not be the same player and vice versa.

Sutton and Henrik were made for each other but Hartson and Henrik was'nt the same ,these 2 players hooper and Stokes seem to compliment each other and have a partnership going ,its not often that this happens right away at a club but its happening with these 2 ,yes buy another striker but he would need to go some to break this partnership up.

how often is it though that 2 high scoring strikers actually work together.

usually it's one striker who gets all the goals and the other just chips in now and then but these two are just free scoring and both are scoring well

he has been absolutely terrific, particularly recently. him and hooper together are just different class, and have an excellent understanding of each other on the pitch. i just hope there form continues all season, because atm they look like they are going to score every time they go forward.
