Anthony Stokes

Neil Lennon was speaking in Ireland today, and he said Stokes has rejected the contract offer on the table but he was confident he will re-sign.

 

so they're negotiating. let's not blow it out of proportion.

 

Would be a disaster for us if we lose Stokes.

 

Aye pretty much, I think Stokes will re-sign. He loves the club but it might be down to what Lennon says to him regarding his Squad Status.

 

It must be a difficult decision for Anthony Stokes trying to decide whether to sign a new contract or not.

I have no doubt in my mind that he loves Celtic and wants to be here. It is also unlikely that if he left Celtic he would be leaving for a bigger club, or better money, so it would seem like the obvious thing for him to do is stay.

On the other hand, I do get the impression that the relationship between him and Neil Lennon isn't always what it could be. It does also appear that Neil Lennon has some doubts in his mind about Stokes as a player, the number of times he gets dropped for big matches tells you that. Stokes must get fed up with that at times and wonder to himself if he'll ever be given the opportunity to play regularly in the biggest matches while Neil Lennon is in charge. If he feels that he won't ever get that chance then I couldn't honestly blame him for leaving the club.

I personally would like him to stay. I still don't feel he's a good enough player for the Champions League but he's definitely good enough to score 20+ a season in the SPL and he will set up quite a few goals on top of that. So he's a player that's well worth having in the squad.

He obviously feels that the club arent valuing him how they should be.

Could be wages or length of contract etc. Im sure it will get sorted.

I also have no doubt Lenny values him as a player, look at Lennys reaction after the final. First guy he went upto, gave a big hug and a pat on the back? Tony Stokes.

That was despite Hooper's 2 goals and Scott Brown's performance. Stokesy was my man of the match right enough.

 

Like stokesy a lot and hope he signs up very under rated imo

 

Hope he does sign the extension.

His love of the club has never been in doubt. Add a couple of thousand on to the wages and he will be fine.

 

Think it's a certainty he'll sign,lots of players don't agree to the 1st offer they receive...

There will be plenty teams interested in Stokes. Maybe he has been tapped by somebody ?

 

On the link says he's unhappy with the terms offered.

 

Clearly or he would have agreed to sign.

Still, gutted with this especially with his form towards the end of the season. Looked like he was back to his best after his injury.

 

Will be really * if we don't keep stokes. His goals mad assist the past 2 years hair been critical for us winning the league.
Give him the contract he deserves. Stokes and a big striker up front or another year with Hooper and were laughing

 

Do we not have an option for another year on his contract ?, no need to panic if so.
