As mentioned, don't think this was the best time to show his discontent for Celtic and in particular, Neil Lennon. I agree he is our top goalscorer and when he puts it on he can score the goals, but our partnership of Hooper & Samaras had been influential against the Huns so far this season. Personally if Stokes wants to act this way, he can * off. Bet any money he wouldn't be mumbling and grumbling if we won the cup yesterday and I think this is him blowing off some steam but to be honest he is trying to sound like a glory hunter. I agree with all points mentioned here - he was more of a priority sub than Paddy McCourt yesterday who also done fuckall.

Stokes has'nt been quoted in saying anything .

Its not an over reaction either ,Celtic were faltering badly up front when we needed a goal ,most Managers would have put a striker on especially if you have the top scorer in Scotland sitting on the bench ,Has something happened that us fans don't know about because its a bit of a sham if Stokes sat this out for tactical reasons .

Funny, I never heard anyone greetin' about Stokes when we were getting the better of the huns recently. Strange...

In saying that, he does deserve his chance NOW. The Sammy and Hooper partnership served us well recently, but we now need something different up top. Stokes deserves his chance.

Here the deal with journalists. Said journalist ( probably Ranger's leaning journalist ) phones Stokes's dad up and asks Stokes's dad how Anthony is feeling being a substitute. Stokes's dad understandably says Anthony is not happy.

Said journalist misquotes Stokes's dad deliberately, and hey presto you have a transfer request threat put in.

With one disclaimer. If Lennon keeps forcing Stokes to sit on the bench for the rest of the season, then said made up transfer request could yet materialize.

    I agree with that.

One small positive though, it's good that there's competition for places in the team.

And one other thing, poor Daryl Murphy. :56:

There are good reasons why Samaras played instead of Stokes, not just because of his performance in the New Years derby. Sammy doesn't just have the capacity to score goals, he links the play well, runs with the ball, can create goals, is good in the air, can hold it up and tends to have the run on Weir and Bougherra. The only thing Stokes offers other than goals is a good work rate. Tactically we can't go into such a big game with two finishers up front no matter how good their partnership because they just don't offer enough in the rest of the play. Samaras is a different option and didn't play all that badly yesterday. Hooper did have a bad game though and probably could have come off earlier, or Sammy could have just because we needed a goal and all Paddy did was slow the game down.

If Stokes does want to leave just because he didn't play yesterday then I honestly couldn't care less. He is a good player and I like him but his attitude stinks. Berbatov is United's top scorer this season but you don't see him complaining after being left out against Marseilles and Arsenal. If he goes where else is he even going to have the chance to play in a cup final, never mind earn the wages he does. This is obviously just a ploy to influence the management's decision making but I really think Stokes needs to grow up. In Europe next season for example he is very unlikely to start unless it is as a winger because he doesn't offer enough, however in the SPL we need his goals so he will always be valuable. It's up to him how he decides to deal with it.

sorry m8 but this is complete pish. stokes and hooper together scored goals for fun. sammy gives the ball away for fun and cuts off attacking runs far more often than he sets them up. he's a counterattackers wet dream and it's time we end the sammy/glenda experiment. put stokesy back on. Should have came on instead of McCourt. There was no formation by the time McCourt came on so it was a bit of a waste as he would have had to dribble behind the whole Rangers team. We would have been better having someone like Stokes in the box at that stage.

The only way Stokes can remain positive is if he starts every game from now til the end of the season, he is far too good a player to lose out on and he will be a massive loss. His mood could change the mood of the changing room aswell which we don't want also. If Lenny promises him a start at every game including the hun games and the cup games then I think he will become much happier. Stokes is obviously angry that he never got a chance to make a change. I have a feeling but at the next game he'll play then he won't play as good, or he might go out to prove a point that he should be playing in the Old Firm games. Once again after Samaras was secured his 4 year deal at the club, he pays it off with an absolute * performance. It is typical from the guy. I believe it is best we sell the guy in the summer now no matter what because he has had far too many chances. I don't want to lose our best striking partnership since Larsson + Sutton because of some doughball who keeps breaking it up.
