You really just need to ask yourself, has Stokes really been much of a miss since Armstrong and Mackay-Steven have came in?

He's only featured in 9 of the last 17 games, which includes 4 cup games the two new boys were unable to play in.

Certainly could have been doing with him instead of Armstrong on the weekend. There's a reason that he's still the player who has set up the greatest amount of goals in our team.

That 17 game period also includes an injury.

im got going to lie or dismiss the amount of goals he has set up, but there is a reason we spent good money on a player, who gets picked before him, ronny must not read as much into the stats issue as some people in here do, or the link up with izzy, if he did stokes would be first on the team sheet every week.

He rotates his wide/forward players, that's why. No attacking player has been a consisent starter under Deila.

For £1.5m I couldn't be arsed with selling him. Unless we put it towards some absolute wonderkids wages from Brazil.

Signing someone else for £1.5m we are taking the chance of him being shiter than Stokes and not contributing as much. It's just a pretty * sum of money.

Has anyone said we miss Stokes every time he doesn't play? I don't think so.

The point is, he creates and scored a good amount of goals, and has done so consistently at domestic level. You can argue that he hasn't done it in Europe until you're blue in the face, but domestic matters are our bread and butter.

He is creative, unselfish and probably doesn't expect to start every week. He links really well with the others when he is allowed to float in that area between the winger/centre forward positions, where he can get close to players.

If you isolate him - like he has been in Europe, and often (but not always) when played as the lone striker - he fades badly. But Deila seems to recognise where his best position in the team is.

I wouldn't sell him for £1.5 million. The 'issue' with Stokes is that he's one of those players who's there's no real point in selling. He's never going to command a particularly great transfer fee because he doesn't do enough in Europe, but at the same time he still contributes enough domestically to be of value to us. Unless that £1.5 million alone, or in addition to our transfer kitty, could guarantee us a player who contributes as much as Stokes does domestically (and based upon our track record recently, I wouldn't hold out much hope) then there's not real reason to sell him.

Whilst Stokes wouldn't be in my starting XI he's still undeniably a good squad player to have. Both him and Mulgrew are in the same boat for me, they're good players to have as back up in case of injuries or for squad rotation but that's their limit. It's not necessarily the most glamorous or inspiring of roles, but every team needs squad players.

Literally a more in depth version of my post. Exactly how I feel.

He lost his place after injury and hasn't done well enough to win it back. Personally I think he should now be back in the team after Armstrong's last couple of performances.

Like I said, he's creative, we couldn't create * all against Caley, get him back in the team.

If both he and Armstrong are fit I can't ever see stokes getting the nod, could be wrong there but

So if Armstrong continues to be invisible on the left Stokes still wont get into the team?

I don't think Ronny works like that to be honest, he's shown before he's not afraid to drop under-performing players.

So if Armstrong is performing below par he is to be untouchable on the left wing?

We're not wrong though. If Armstrong continues to perform on the left like he did at Caley Thistle then he is nowhere near as effective as Stokes.
