Yet the fact remains as far as am concerned , booze hasn't affected Stokes performance.

It would be hard for Ronny to drag him into the office! And say otherwise. Booze isn't the problem, he just isn't good enough to get into the first team. (Unless we play 2 up front).

When the England cricketers won the Ashes recently it shown them on live TV having more then 1 beer nothing was said about that
Footballers are professionals but there also human beings how many times do we have a long and tough day at work and come home to a beer? nothing wrong with them doing it as well

The truth is neither of us know if booze is affecting his performance. But if there is any truth in the rumour he's in the pub two or three times a week then it would be reasonable to assume that it will be affecting him.

As for the bolded bit, I totally agree with you.

It doesn't matter what you, I or any other ordinary joe does. We are not professional athletes. Stokes is. You are making excuses for him.

The crickets are professional athletes yet millions of people saw them swigging beer on TV

Nothing wrong with a few celebratory drinks after winning an ashes. But drinking a couple of times a week when you're a professional footballer is taking the *. It's a fact that drinking 3-4 days before a game will affect your performance.

    This!

Why do people insist on making excuses for a footballer when it comes to alcohol? "A few drinks every now and again is ok" - I can assure you there are thousands of athletes across the country who won't earn anything in their sport, who will avoid alcohol like the plague.

I have mates who play GAA for their local teams (not even inter-county players) and they don't touch a drop of alcohol for 5 or 6 months of the year during the football season. (and these boys are fond of their drink, plus whatever)
If amatuers can stay off it for so long, why can't a professional football player? Shouldn't be too much to ask.

A man I bought a dog off told me his cousin is friends with someone on facebook his sister lives next door to the thumb and that he has teacakes for breakfast, lunch, dinner and supper. I want him dropped immediately and confined to a cell for a month where he can be force fed salads.

It's strange if Stokes is a regular drinker in the same pub that the SMSM have not got wind of it

Stokes definitely has the talent, I doubt that has ever been in question. It's his mentality that has always been the issue. He's a flake.

He's never done anything wrong while playing for hoops. I cant understand some fans hatred (inc my dad) against him.

Him and izzaguire seem to be whipping boys yet when you see these two link up theres a connection there that we havent seen with anyone else in these positions.

GMS is too selfish and cant defend, generally pish since he's came here. Blackett not convinced a left back. Mulgrew, cant play football these days.

Stokes will cover izzy. Same as Izzy isnt as bad as defending as some think. He does a helluva job on the left hand side and has done nothing to be warranted being out the team. The abuse the pair of them get is unreal, when in actuality, they are both better players than those who have been playing recently.

Surely to * he merits being on the bench today more than McGregor. Couldn't break Aberdeen down, Stokes ain't the greatest but is capable of some incisive passing around the penalty box
