It's indosputable that he was a bargain.

Bobby Petta ripped Ajax apart in 2001, was gone from the squad before the 2003 UEFA Cup Final. You have to look at things as a whole- we want to progress as a team in Europe, and Stokes is NOT good enough at that level.

Stokes has done the business domestically for us and will do again. We need depth and if he does not start in Europe then he will be useful to our squad anyway

Stokes had his chance, never developed into a quality player. We shouldn't cling onto mediocrity. Armstrong is our current and long-term choice at left attacking mid now, and in one European performance for us has scored in as many European games as Stokes did in 25+ appearances.

Stokes' wages could be much better spent elsewhere.

GMS has taken his place but we need a good squad and im sure Stokes still has an important role to play even if he isnt now in our best starting 11.

There's a lot of wages that could be better spent, Stokes has been very good this season.

Just stop. Our books are bulging at the minute. We can afford a man who scores and assists on a consistent basis weather or not he is first choice. I heard there is a bike in Lennoxtown that is only used when the gym is packed but most days it is free, id say we could get a few pound if we flogged it down the barras

Our top scorer in the league and top Assister overall now isn't worth ~£10k p/w :56:

Stokes hasn't been given a chance in Europe under Ronny yet. Sick of saying it but the guy deserves a chance for a few reasons:

    1. He's obviously worked extremely hard to adapt to Ronnys style
    2. He's played very well in a new position this season, seamless transition.
    3. He's our top scorer (in the league) and top assister overall this year.
    4. Whenever he has played poorly in Europe he was deployed as a lone striker. Any surprise he was beside Hooper in the Rennes game?

Very unprofessional that he couldn't get back in time though, no hiding from that. Hopefully he wasn't just being disrespectful and he had a real reason for it or just missed his flight. I hope he's given a second chance.

He wasn't beside Hooper in the Rennes game, Hooper was on the bench, he was beside Sammy as Stokes had won Hoopers place in the team.

Hooper came on as a sub and scored.

So if you don't think stokes is good enough for our starting 11 you automatically hate the man?....

A good squad player. Never been any better than decent for us. And that's the bottom line, really

He's played 12 games how's that not getting a chance, Armstrong has already outscored him.

This'll be his third or fourth chance in regards to not turning up.

He's extremely infuriating, another one who turns up once every month or so. More often than not, he's an average player who makes a lot of mistakes. His scoring record isn't bad but his overall performances rarely impress.

Armstrong looks like a far better player.

The fact that in 3 games Armstrong and GMS have impressed more than stokes has says it all really.

We're far more excited about these 2 than stokes, aren't we?

Stokes will be a good squad player for us if there's injuries. But right now I can't see him being part of the starting 11

Don't know how you and others have the heart to keep coming back to this thread to defend him :smiley-laughing002:

Some people do have a genuine agenda against him and will not be convinced, others are just being fickle.

I can't see Stokes featuring much in the immediate future, certainly not in the more important games, and not in the starting 11.

I feel he is at his best as one of 2 frontmen, but that won't happen under Deila, so don't really see where he'll fit in with the squad we now have.
