I agree with you except I really hope he starts, and I believe he will. Deila will not be writing him off after one poor performance (he wasn't even THAT bad, he was just very average) on a terrible playing surface.

Alien is another word for unfamiliar or strange, that's all I meant. I'm not trying to suggest he's been thrown majorly in the deep end by playing on the left, but he deserves huge credit for adapting so well to the change.

Not good enough. We need a player for the position he played yesterday.

Stokes is an enigma of a player, capable of sheer brilliance one moment but often goes missing for entire games.

Hes definitely not a winger hes a forward.

And IMO hes an SPFL class striker and that's it,he definitely isn't good enough for Europe,2 goals in 5 season at European level.

I thought the park done him and Izaguirre no favours whatsoever. They usually like to play short passes with each other, but it just wasn't a day for that, because the ball was bobbling all over the place. I thought both Stokes and Izaguirre were both poor from an attacking point of view, but I think the state of the pitch was a factor in that.

I understand that the pitch didn't suit him... but it didn't suit any of our players.

He was an empty shirt. :54:

Honestly at times I feel like you could write a * thesis on Stokes and his role within both the Celtic team and the Celtic support.

He had a poor game yesterday, for whatever reason, footballers have bad games - it happens. What is inarguable is that statistically he is consistently our most creative player (haven't double checked, but I'm fairly sure that's true) and any attempt that we've made in recent years to sign a player who plays in the position he plays in have turned out poorly. Is there a chance we could sign a better player than him? Of course. Is it proving very, very difficult? Yes. Keep him, as for now he is the best we have, and let's try and not be so ungrateful to a player who's given his all for this club over the last 4 and a half years and proven to be an incredibly valuable member of the squad.

Expect to see less of him on the LW with GMS and Duffy signing. Gives Deila another option in the middle and might even convince him to play 2 upfront in some games. (Fingers crossed :smiley-laughing002:)

Anthony Stokes embodies the average Scottish player. He has found his level in the league, but don't expect him to do anything in Europe. Lennon never played him in Europe and if he did it was begrudgingly. Lennon knew Stokes was a good league player and that's what we need to remain consistent against average teams. He is consistently average against less than average players. Not a centre stage international, despite playing for Celtic. Says it all.

I'd sell him in the summer if we can command a fee for him (can't recall his contract length).

He's done a decent enough job, but for me hasn't offered it enough in terms of what could be described as big games. I'm also not a fan of him out wide, yeah there's been a couple of good link up play with Izzy in some games, but for me doesn't have the credentials required to play on the wing. And I'd rather see someone more of a penalty box striker instead of him up front.

Yeah, beeing our top assister this and scoring also a load of goals is playing consistenly average.

    * sake why are so many people underrating Stokes? If you want to get less game time or even out of the team for someone better ok, but why are you insulting his contributions that he gave to our team?

Exactly. Remember all those people saying we wouldn't be able to replace him?? GMS and Armstrong for £1.75million both are twice the player he is. :smiley-laughing002:

Well thankfully now our strongest eleven doesn't include him. He's been a decent player here, always up there in terms of goals and assists but he's never been a great player. Very frustrating and doesn't fit in with how we play now. Armstrong and GMS are far better options.

Harsh. He's definitely not a flop.
