Anthony Stokes

Cannot believe that somehow Stokes is being viewed as absolutely critical to this team!!
He's not a bad player as shown by his record but is he crucial!? If he is we've fallen a lot further than I ever thought possible.

Stokes is crucial to the way this team functions. Just because he's Anthony Stokes, the dub we pinched off Hibs, doesnt make that a slant on our team. It certainly doesn't mean that we've 'fallen a lot further than you ever thought possible'.

Sorry if it hurts but here is a guy with one of the worst euro goal records we've ever had! Also not been trusted by Lennon (coincidentally the guy who signed him) in the big games. Stokes is a decent player for us no doubt especially at SPL level but I would personally never classify him as crucial ever at any point!

 

Stokes is to us what Kris Boyd was for the now defunct club called Rangers. Absolutely killer domestically, but really * poor in Europe.

 

Wouldn't play Stokes as a Striker ever in Europe but I'm happy for him to play Left Wing been top notch so far from there

 

Okay.

Stokes has a poor scoring record in Europe because he has almost always been deployed as a lone striker in Europe. He is never a lone striker in a million years.

He is by far our highest assister this year and is our top goal scorer in the league while playing in an 'unnatural' position for him.

Any time Stokes is out of the team there is considerably less creativity in the side. He was missing for our last 2 games against Ross County and both of those games were awful spectacles. That is no coincidence.

In short, Stokes has assisted and scored more than anyone else at Celtic in the league this season. He is crucial to how we want to play whether you like to admit it or not.

 

Do people think he should stay on the Left Wing or buy someone else and let him play as a second striker

 

Stokes is a far far better footballer than Boyd ever was. I think even the Huns might admit that :smiley-laughing002:

The Stokes/Boyd comparison is so wide of the mark its a joke. Stokes has a poor record in Europe because he was played out of position in Europe. It's that simple.

Look at the game at Zagreb for example. Stokes came of the bench and was my man of the match despite probably only playing about 20 minutes :smiley-laughing002:

 

I'd easily keep him for left wing but I'd rather he was an alternative to a better player. He's proven though and there are plenty I'd be shipping out before him.

Like you say he's also an option up front.

 

Absolutely baffling how this man can be a regular starter at our club, the amount of times he gave the ball away under a bit of pressure was embarrassing. What does he actually do ? Pish.

 

He was our worst player today, BUT, the pitch really didn't suit him at all.

 

Didn't turn up. Disappointing.

 

Most creative player and second top scorer this year. Wasn't the pitch for him and Izzy's kinda passing today.

That's pish, poor today but has been one of our best this season.

 

His lack of consistency is his biggest problem. Arguably been our most important player this season, but he has some amount of matches where he's * terrible. Today was one of those.

He was shocking today.

 

I think he's fantastic, but he hasn't really showed up for the big occasions

 

We won, I don't care if he was * today :icon_mrgreen: .. Pitch was * as well, Sunday league style.
