"It was a very, very tough call, but the prospect of playing in the Premiership was what drew me to Charlton," Stokes was quoted in the Sunday Mirror.

"I spoke to Roy Keane and Gordon Strachan and it was a privilege to have those two people interested.

"It's the hardest decision I have ever made."

People seem to be talking about the guy having to make his money now coz he's only got 20 years left, but what about his career? Are you the same people who hounded Liam Miller when he left us for Man U, prob for a higher wage along with the fact that he'd be playing with the mighty Man U?

I honestly can't believe the bullshit some of you have come out with, the bottom line is if it was you, what would you do? I know for a fact i would have bitten the hand off of Lawell for a contract, whatever the terms. Even if i was offered 30 grand with Barcelona or 10 grand with Celtic. But then, maybe am a bit more passionate about my club than some people.

Everybody comes on here and says they would play for Celtic for nothing, and we would. The problem is we are a bunch of talentless * who would never get near a Celtic jersey. Good players, professional players play for money and the more they can get the better. Just think how easy Lawwell's job would be if he could walk into the dressing room and say all the Celtic fans are getting 5 grand a week and the rest can have 10 grand.Jari Jarosik could have twice as much as Neil Lennon.

Aye to certain extent. If you set yourself a target of a certain wage and don't accept anything under it, anything after that is a bonus. Even if what Celtic offered was a bit under what he was expecting, it would still be worth going for.

At the end of the day, it comes down to a decision between making the best out of your career, or money. Choosing Celtic would have prob given him less money to start with, but ultimately he would have been better off in terms of his status, and eventually, if he done well and built his reputation, it wouldn't have taken long to be able to demand a better wage.

I'm not disagreeing with you but look at it the other way. There is one positon up for grabs, rivals are Magic, Beattie and Miller. What if he doesn't command a first team place and decides to move on. Will the top wage Charlton are offering still be available. Hardly likely. Look at Maloney, last season he could have asked for any wage he liked, now fans are tellimg him to * off as he is a money grabbing wee bassa.

So basically it comes down to whether has has the bottle to go for it and take his chances when they come. To me what you have just described a negative thinking player who doesn't believe in his own ability, thank * we didn't sign him then.

I don't know the boy's state of mind. But what we would be buying is potential, a boy who has played half a season for Falkirk, not yet a proven Internationalist, and someone who I don't think is ready for the first team. I think at the moment he would be a squad player and I think he knows this himself and that is why he has opted for Charlton. What Celtic should be signing is a proven Internationalist finisher.

you'd better say either £1000 an hour or £2000 an hour.

but apart from that, I really can't understand all the fuss about him. He ain't a new maradona, he just scored a few goals in the spl. We need to aim for better and proven players (international and national).

Remember the living in London is alot more expensive than living in Glasgow so the extra £££ must have been alot
