Of course it is, and he'll learn the hard way.

ye - sounds a bit of a strange decision , but like I said .. it must suit him for his own reasons... anyway we shall move on and upwards :50:

If he signed for Charltion he might help to keep them in the EPL, but he sure wont help them to win the FA cup, cause ther oot, this season that is! :84:
Anyhoo good luck to the guy! :86:

Maybe it was a money decision but you don't know the figures involved. Let's say Celtic offered £10,000 a week and Charlton offered £20,000, you would have to be nuts to turn down that offer. Until you know the facts there is no point in running the guy down. He is not the first to knock us back and I'm sure he won't be the last.

Are you saying as an 18-year-old, Celtic loving football player you'd knock back £10 grand a week to play for us?

At the end of the day, is he good enough to keep the likes of Vennegoor of Hesselink and Miller out of the team??? To be honest, i dont think so!!! Havent really seen much of the lad but i personally dont think we need him or any other attacker. If we are going to sign a striker, its got to be someone who is going to benefit us in the champions league!!!

    Hail Hail!!!

I could keep Miller out of the team right now:97:

O'Dea has scored the same number of SPL goals as Miller ffs!

I would if someone offered me 20 grand a week.Time to get into the real world. Supporters will play for nothing. Professionals play for money. You try telling your missus your changing your job for less money because you like the other company better.

Maybe for a 30-year-old man with two or three kids, then the financial side comes into play. But an 18-year-old with no pressure other than making himself become a top player (which he'd have a far better chance of doing with us)? Maybe it's Stokes who should get in the real world, money isn't everything, and if he was truly a Celtic fan as he claims to be he would have signed at the first opportunity.

Again everybody just assumes that he should sign for Celtic and that is it. What if Strachan told him that he was going to be a pool player and Charlton guaranteed him first team football and more money. All I'm saying is, until you are in possession of the facts it's wrong to assume that he is a money grabbing * who doesn't deserve a fair crack at life.

maybe, as some players do, he is going to celtic afterall but he is claiming chalton is offering say £20,000 (which isnt true). he may just be crafty and want to get more from his boy-hood club. but if celtic say no he might as well just sign up!

Spot on, Stokes is a Celtic fan but the Celtic deal wasnt the best deal on the table at the time. Some people here are living in fantasy land when it comes to things like this.

Charlton are in the EPL, its the reason Maloney hasnt signed a new deal, its the reason why Miller, Viduka, Hooijdonk, Di Canio etc etc went there, big bucks. Money always talks loudest, never forget that.

Again it is all assumption. Unless your were at the meeting between Lawwell and Stokes then you are only guessing what went on.Possibly Celtic knocked him back because they didn't like his attitude. No one knows what happened and probably never will.

What the * you on about pool players? Your right am assuming he should sign for Celtic, he's meant to be a tim. If he's bright enough he'd know for a fact he'd get a regular start practically as soon as he's in the door, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out.

And another thing, a small bit of patience would have went a long way. Sign for us now, do what you do best (score goals) and prove yourself worthy of a better contract.

I'm no rocket scientist but if what you say is true, then why doesn't every tim in the world who is any good sign for us. Was Gravesen and Jarosik told that they wouldn't be pool players

Celtic manager Gordon Strachan was playing it cool after apparently losing out to Charlton in his bid to bring Republic of Ireland Under-21 international Anthony Stokes to Parkhead.
The Hoops had been interested in the 18-year-old striker who scored 16 goals in a loan spell at Falkirk this season before returning to Arsenal at the turn of the year.
However, as speculation mounted that Stokes had opted for the south London club, whose poor form in the Premiership was compounded by an FA Cup third-round defeat by Nottingham Forrest, Strachan refused to be downbeat.
Asked if he was disappointed that Stokes had not chosen to sign for Celtic, the Parkhead boss said: "No, because we know we have good players here.
"Whether it's through the youth team or, hopefully, buying well, the history of the club shows people want to come here and play.
"People want to come here and win championships, play in Europe at the highest level, play in front of 60,000 people and play with good players with the chance of making yourself a legendary figure.
"If you feel you can get that elsewhere, then fair enough."
Strachan enjoyed a relaxing afternoon at Celtic Park as his side eased through to fourth round of the Tennent's Scottish Cup with a comfortable 4-0 home win over Third Division Dumbarton.
After Paul McQuilken had missed an early chance for the visitors, a double by Maciej Zurawski and a strike by Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink gave the home side an unassailable interval lead.
Hoops' substitute Derek Riordan, who replaced Shunsuke Nakamura at the break, grabbed Celtic's fourth with 20 minutes remaining to round off an expected victory.
Strachan insists the most pleasing aspect of the win was seeing his strikers getting on the scoresheet.
He said: "The positives were that our strikers scored which was a relief and it was nice to see them being congratulated.
"We could have had more but as you seen, Jan was a wee bit rusty. But we put out a top side and we did the job professionally."
Dumbarton manager Gerry McCabe was left ruing the chance missed by McQuilken in the first 90 seconds.
He said: "Paul actually said that Artur Boruc got a touch to it and it should have been a corner.
"If we had scored first, who knows what could have happened?
But then again, we might have just got them angrier.
"But I was happy for the first four minutes until they scored their first goal. When you lose a goal after four minutes then you fear the worst.
"The two goals from our point of view were poor to lose although Celtic had a few chances and didn't put them away. So I can't complain and we hung in there.
"We can't fault the effort although we don't know if Celtic took their foot off the gas in the second half. But you have to remember we are a Third Division side and we are playing a team who are in the last 16 of the Champions League."

fifty pieces of silver or play for your boyhood heros??...
easy decision in my eyes..go to my heros in a league where ive proved myself and earn a five figure contract! its not as if celtic have offered him a pittance!!huh...well if thats his ambition'charlton' then we were better off without him!! next season he can discuss ''what ifs?''with mcnamara and liam miller geez they have went places wonder if they miss paradise?
