Anthony Ralston

Tbh, I’d like to blood him as a CB and move Ajer back to DM. Either that or transform Ralston himself into a DM.

 

No chance I would move Ajer. Perfectly suited to centre half.

 

Reserving judgement on Tony, he needs games.

 

By DM, I don’t mean anything like either Brown or Ntcham. We tend to play with a 4-2-3-1 so both those guys (ball-winner/driver and deep playmaker) are essential.
But on occasions (esp in Europe) where we tend to play a 4-3-3 with a deeper defender, for me, you want someone there - behind both Brown and Ntcham - who has the qualities of a ball-playing centre-back but isn’t quite a natural centre-back: a Mascherano/Busquets/Matic type; a half-back, as they used to be called.

For me, as good as Ajer is at CB, I think that slightly more advanced role is where we could see the best of him.

And I don’t think Ralston would be a first-choice centre-back. I’d like to see Ajer and Jozo at CB in domestic games, and Jozo and a new signing behind Ajer in Europe.

 

Apparently when Ralston and Teirney were in the youth squad, Ralston was seen as the far bigger prospect. He has a * of a lot of catching up to do now to get anywhere near the standard of Teirney. I think the mere fact he was punted out to Dundee United when we had a injury-prone ageing RB in Lustig playing in the first team is a bit worrying. By all accounts he has been decent for Dundee United but he will have to more than decent in the Scottish Championship to prove himself good enough to get a game for Celtic.

 

That was probably cause he was injured though, he was out for about 4 month injured and after a lay off like that we were never going to play him to get him back up to speed.

Where did you get that from and does it matter?

Ralston has always been a prospect but so have Calvin Miller, Theo Archibald, Jack Aitchison, Aidan Nesbitt, Regan Hendy, Mark Hill, Liam Henderson similar to Tierney.

Tierney got a chance and Delia to his credit saw a first team player and developed him and stuck by him when he wasn't so great. Ralston could well make it, some of the others could too, but he needs game time.

Any player that has stayed in the Celtic youth system for close to 10 years has to have something or they wouldn't be there. I think what Tierney has is the right attitude, and yes plenty of ability too. If Ralston can emulate that I think he will be successful here.

Ralston has had a hard time on here. I like him, like his attitude, like the positions he takes up and at times, his composure like he showed tonight.

People need to stop being * about young players is my point basically.
