Anthony Ralston

Bar the cutback for Abada he was awful mate. Too immobile, too slow and not good enough in tight spaces.

 

Him and Starfelt.

 

Thought he was one of our better players today but that’s not saying much.

 

He was eh, not as bad as most of our other players so I'll give him that.

 

Gets a pass a lot of the time cos of the way he's turned his career around here and that he's good for a quality pass or cross from time to time but he's bang average.

 

His first touch was atrocious at times today. Ball bounced off him about 15-20 ft a few times. He's a very limited player who improved massively and has had some great moments, but if he's not playing regularly, the old rustiness creeps in and he looks more like the Ralston of old.

 

The thing about Ralston is, he's a back up full back and that's it. By and large he does a job when he comes in but against better teams his limitations can be more evident. It's nothing to be overly concerned about.

 

Was far from the problem today, he got stuck in and defended well enough. He’s just not a good enough footballer though, his 2nd touch was a tackle for majority of the game.

I know he’s just back up but we’d seriously struggle in big games without AJ, Ralston is a squad player at best.

 

Thought he was a bit rough n rusty looking today tbh. Sloppy touches and sometimes slow to overlap think just from lack of game time

 

Hate to say it (for obvious reasons) but I think he's a ways off Johnston's level, and I thought the same when it came to Juranovic.

The balls over the top can be great and he can whip in some nice crosses from the byline, but his overall game is lacking.

Having said that, he can still improve and at this moment is a far more credible backup than Bernabei.

 

Thought he was probably our best player today, and that's saying something.

Starfelt was doing my * on with his * floaty lofted passes to Ralston in particular, putting him in bother.

 

Ralston gives away too much space to the winger and looks ropey as * when he's in the middle back to goal, regularly..

 

Has he ever played as centre back as I think he may be brilliant there, yeah we lose his good crossing but the guy is built like a mountain and has the heart of a lion.

 

So stiff i honestly don't even think he's good enough as backup..

We can get much better. So stiff and poor on the ball, quite slow and defensively suspect..

He's done well overall but you would never fancy him for a sustained run in big games of Johnston was out long term..

 

I don't even think he's that strong tbh.

 

He's regressed from last season, general consensus last year was he was more than good enough as our back up RB, now he's starting to look like Ralston pre-Ange.

We have other positions we need to sort out first, and because of the homegrown quota I think he's safe for now, but he really needs to pick up his form.

 

He's strong in that he takes some fair amount of knocks and always comes back....but he isn't that strong in the challenge. Very stiff in his movement also and no that quick at all..

 

He's definitely not mate ! Will never be good enough !

 

Yeah that's what I meant. I can't knock the guy for attitude and mentality but I think for a guy as built as him he's just not as strong as he could, or should be in the challenge or even 1vs1's.
