Iv not had this feeling about a manager since Mon tbh. Yes Rodgers was good. However I feel something special with ange. We've got more to come. Much more.

I've never thought "told ya so's'" were in order, because Ange was just so unknown here. You're gonna be sceptical, it's understandable. I think somebody else made this point, but even if you were supporting an Australian side and a new manager was announced who you'd never heard of and was from a nation with little footballing pedigree, you'd absolutely be questioning the appointment.

I remember reading the first pages of this thread when it was happening, and even though I knew that most of what my fellow Aussies were saying was true, I was almost cringing at how absurd it must have sounded. That there was this unbelievable, world-class manager who would completely transform not just the team but the club, and yet he'd spent all of his career in Asia (discounting a short spell in Greece) and nobody in Europe had discovered him until now at the age of 55. It sounds ridiculous. But, like I said, most of the praise was fair and well supported by a proven track record of success.

If anything, what this should illustrate is that there are good managers who struggle to even get a look-in due to the parochial attitudes which pervade European football. This is even more true of English football, with some of the * that gets job after job there, while somebody like Ange couldn't even get considered.

No doubt Aussie sports media will be onto it as soon as the season is over.

You're still gonna get the big "up yir" whenever I can be bothered digging through old threads :84:

I wasn’t really someone who doubted Ange so to speak - I didn’t have a clue who he was, or what to expect. The strict adherence to his philosophy made me nervous, but it still does to a degree and will do until I see it work in Europe.

It was just a difficult time for the whole club. It felt as though we had a rebuild that would take a few years to do properly, and we’d spent about 6 months sitting in our hands doing very little.

Deserves huge credit for the impact he has had and how he has stayed loyal to his ideas and philosophy. Also the way he has conducted himself in the media and public eye has been exemplary. Has never seemed phased or lost his composure, a real level head.

I do think there are small flaws with his system, but i would still go as far to say that I like the way he sets his side up more that Rodgers.

Im optimistic about what he can do with a full pre season and a few more additions and hopeful he can make a big impact in europe.

Always knew he'd come good, so glad i stuck by him from the off, welcomed him with open arms, whilst others wrote him off and never gave the guy a chance, disgusting. :41:

Literally all that is missing now is for us to make a mark in Europe again. Turn Paradise into a fortress again. I didn’t judge Ange too much in Europe this season, too much too soon for a squad in a state of transition. We still got 9 points though, which tells you how far we’d come even that early in the campaign.

I've been here for nearly ten years, but that stood for nothing when I tried to soothe the natives with some insight into the fabulous manager they'd just acquired.

I would've been gobsmacked if he'd not been successful at Celtic, but he's done it faster (and so much better) than even I anticipated.

    Next year will be enormous.

A week on from collecting the PFA Scotland Manager of the Year award, Ange Postecoglou was digging out his black tie once again for the Scottish Football Writers’ Association awards last night (Sunday).

In what has turned into a remarkable first season in charge of Celtic, the manager was handed another award to add to his ever-growing cabinet that stands to showcase his role in turning around the club’s fortunes this year.

Fresh after watching his team put in a dominant display to defeat Hearts at a packed Paradise, Ange Postecoglou was in attendance to pick up the Manager of the Year title, as voted for by the country’s journalists.

With a League Cup title already in the bag and the club on the brink of reclaiming the Scottish Premiership title, Ange Postecoglou was tipped for the honour ahead of Scotland’s Steve Clarke, Ross County’s Malky Mackay, Hearts’ Robbie Neilson and Arbroath’s * Campbell.

It’s well-earned recognition for the Australian having steered the Hoops towards a domestic double.

After a difficult run of results at the start of the league campaign, the manager has spearheaded a new group of players on a 30-game unbeaten run in the Premiership, which sees the side sitting six points clear at the top of the table with just two games left.

December’s League Cup success over Hibernian also helped the manager clinch the writers’ award, as Ange Postecoglou delivered his first piece of silverware as the manager of Celtic in a dramatic 2-1 victory.

Speaking at the awards, the manager said: “I’m very proud and humbled to receive the award.

“There’s been a number of outstanding performances from managers this year and I'm really pleased to receive it but I also acknowledge I’ve had tremendous support from everyone at the football club and the players have been outstanding.

“We’ve had a few good weekends, we’ve been pretty consistent over a while and the players have been outstanding in their commitment to playing our football.

'Everyone committed to something and we’ve had a few bumps along the road but the whole staff and players embraced every challenge and stuck to the beliefs we have in the football club we want to be.'

“You have to have belief in yourself in what you’re about to embark on, but it’s not just about believing in something, you have to work hard for it and we’ve worked awfully hard.

“We have to be better next year irrespective of what happened this year, the way I want teams to play and the training process takes a while for people to get into and I’m hoping next year we will be a stronger team and I look forward to what that brings.”

Mental a Greek immigrant from Australia understands the Celtic support more after 1 season than Neil Lennon does having supported us all his life.
