I just get the fear when I hear the Tony mowbray chat of playing the celtic way so to speak. Not many have the balls and character like ange.
I was very sceptical myself. Up to the aberdeen game. Hit a bump with the livi game but what he has achieved with less the bare minimum and support other managers have had is beyond belief.

If ange gets the support from the board and fans he needs he can get celtic to what they tried to start with the academy and making roads into Europe.

I never get tired of seeing this one get dug back up, or of digging it up myself.

    Talk about setting yourself up…

The board should have sacked lennon in October. He went on the 6 game run before losing. Then there was the jolly in Dubai. Then the fences outside Parkhead. At which point I thought they should give it to Strachan to steady the ship. Then the lies about Eddie Howe to sell season tickets. Before Lawwell eventually resigned.

Ange was a total nobody. If Eddie Howe took over, our recruitment would have been atrocious by comparison, Bournemouth and EPL rejects. He'd have been out the door by Christmas after 4 games more like.

I love every single one of Ange Postecoglou's signings. The Japanese flags are waving on high, alongside the tricolors and the league flag! You've got to commend him. We're in the Champions League. Last season we were saying we'd struggle to make the conference. 2-3 years of second best. I think the Leverkusen game away, and the number of goals we've scored in Europe proves we can compete. The Bodo/Glimt schooling was a one off. We're on the rise.

I dont know about that. You're probably right about the recruitment it would of been epl rejects but he would of won us games he is a decent manger, what he did at newcastle the second part of the year has been pretty impressive.

Eddie Howe would have won us the league this year too. He's an excellent manager! He wanted to come but it didn't work out. We move on and don't slate the man because you never know, one day he might fancy it again.

I can only speak for myself, but the way we went about appointing Ange was what made me feel totally disheartened. It looked inevitable that we would get Howe, who I wanted, but when he turned us down, I still think it was down to him being told who his back room staff would be be. I’m delighted how it’s turned out, and I wouldn’t swap Ange for Howe, but I do think Howe would have turned us around as well. Considering where we were a year ago, this is one of the greatest titles ever in my opinion though, and that means appointing Ange was a masterstroke. Almost every signing had to make an impact, and nearly every one has.

From a nobody, Ange has become Zeus incarnate in the eyes of many. He certainly has the willpower of Zeus.

I read that last bit as the walloper of Zeus, and I completely agree.

Howe would’ve been an improvement on Lennon no doubt. He’s done well at Newcastle the money came there at the right time. Howe was keen to have his own assistants start at Newcastle as Gerrard was with Villa. Ange was willing to take on existing staff and no Director of Football. Nailed recruitment and having so many new players from all over quickly adapt to new system. * of a job

Some of the comments at the start of this thread are a good laugh now, guy wasn't even given a chance by most and some comments were just insulting. Maybe folk might learn to haud their tongue in future!

He wasn't my first choice at the time, purely because I didn't know enough about him, but I was more than happy to give the guy a chance, and didn't take long for him to show he knows what he's doing, even though I'm sure he knew that well before most.

Hope he's here for the foreseeable, which will depend on the board and how they support him probably.

Quite enjoyed reading my posts over the first few pages. The above post was in response to a post suggesting he might get * off with the board's penny pinching and meddling.

I do think Howe's a good manager and could have been successful here, but I'm not sure he would have won the league in his first season.

A big reason for our success has been Ange's impressive recruitment and signing players who almost all hit the ground running. The squad needed a complete rebuild, so for start, Howe would have had to replicate that, and his record on that front is open to debate.

Second is the consistency, with an unbeaten run which now stretches to 30 matches. Let's be honest, Celtic are always going to win a lot of games in this league, but to not really slip up for such an extended period was crucial. People - even supporters - were writing off our title challenge 6 games in, and as Ange has said, we needed to be near enough perfect from that point on to have any chance of success. Now given the state of the squad at the beginning of the season, it's likely that Howe also would have had a somewhat challenging start (which he did at Newcastle) so could he have guided a new group of players, all learning about the expectations of playing for Celtic, to a near perfect level of consistency? That's not easy to do.

Next are all the intangible things which Ange has navigated so well. It's probably easy for those who didn't know who Ange was before this season to forget that the guy is vastly experienced. He's been a full-time manager since 1996. Managed in different continents, at a World Cup - there's not much he won't have seen or dealt with. He's also had jobs in the media so understands how that side works. Would Howe have dealt with the Scottish press so adeptly? He seemed to * it a bit when blindsided by a question about the Saudi's human rights abuses. What about the pressure of Glasgow derbies, which Ange has handled like a boss?

There are surely hundreds of managers in world football who could succeed at Celtic over a period of time, given the competition and the resources, but I genuinely believe that there aren't too many who would have been able to achieve this level of success this quickly. Just compare the ragtag bunch of misfits Ange inherited compared to the squad Rodgers had. Plus this is a win against the same Rangers side who didn't lose a match last season and are doing well in Europe. Yet if not for the fine margins of an extra time goal in a match that could have gone either way, we'd be well on course for a treble. Regardless, it's impressive stuff.

Absolutely no chance we would of won the league under Howe, our squad was decimated, our recruitment has been superb. Howe at Newcastle spent a combined 38 million on 30 yr old Chris Wood and turning 30 Dan Burn. Honestly how much would you be happy for Celtic to spend on those two, maybe 3m each?

And not the only one ! Pages 1 to 20 are fascinating !

My personal "favourite" was ... Sounds like someone who should be doing my washing...

And not just Ange P , in the light of the slagging "the Aussie contingent" were getting I stayed out of it.

The main gripe with Ange’s appointment was the Howe fiasco, and very little to do with Ange himself. If the board had come out and identified Ange as the man they wanted, there would be questions asked no doubt, but nothing like the outrage we saw.

People have to remember how justifiably * off Celtic fans were before they give it the old ‘I told you so’. We had seen 10IAR fall apart, persisted with a manager who was calling us all a bunch of ungrateful shites for 4/5 months longer than we should’ve, and then chased Howe for months only to fall short - these were really just the major mistakes.

In the absence or a ridiculous appointment akin to pulling a rabbit out of the hat reputation wise, fans were going to be severely * off.

I mean it with no disrespect to the guys who have joined to follow Ange’s career here, but unless you were a Celtic fan during the 2020/2021 season, it’s very hard to understand how badly things had gone in a short space of time, and how angry the fanbase was.
