Agree with you Taz that the author really doesn’t understand the path that Ange has trodden. I don’t know who the author is, but it’s obvious they aren’t a Celtic fan or if they are, they still don’t get where this is all going.

What I can see is the fans are believing, the players are believing and that is all that matters.

We’ve come a long way on here, from giving the Aussies absolute pelters when we came in to say, no worry, this is a better appointment for Celtic than Howe, just you watch(plus we’ve won a few of those through the recruitment), to guys wanting to cuddle Ange and most importantly people starting to dream that there’s a possibility of European success.

This is really what it boils down to with Ange, that he believes and he can make his players believe that they belong at the top of the game, that if they don’t make excuses, if they don’t cut corners, then the players can achieve the highest accolades for themselves but most importantly for the club and it’s fans, writing each player into the history of Celtic.

Where in the future, just like the ‘67 Lions, the players will always have a ‘home’ where they would be remembered forever.

I honestly read what I’ve just written, and I don’t think I have the words nor the ability to describe what’s happening here, but I do know something special will unfold under Ange’s reign in charge. That will be down to Celtic being a special club with the right man in charge.

And he is already building a case that suggests you can establish a high quality team that can achieve things in Europe for a lot less money than people tend to think.

He's right. Lesser clubs have done much more than us in the last 10-15 years in Europe.

His recruitment alone has been worth it. Simply unbelievable.

THERE was an interesting aside as Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou waded through his multiple pre-match media commitments on Friday afternoon. If the club’s support were still giddy in the aftermath of a performance full of aggression, energy and swagger on Wednesday evening as they celebrated their first win over Rangers since 2019, the Greek-Australian did not offer any indication of being swept along in its slipstream.

The grounded Postecoglou used the word “battle-hardened” to describe his squad this season which would seem apt for a club who went through a civil war last term. He was not privy to that in its full flow– there were only two survivors on the park on Wednesday who were – but there have been challenges too throughout this campaign.

And while the win over Rangers was notable, Postecoglou was keen to attribute what came before as pivotal in shaping the mentality of his squad going into it. This was a Celtic team who went into the game on the back of a 21-game winning run, a sequence of results which created the environment for the performance they went on to produce.

“I said to them before the game that this hasn’t been a smooth ride for us to this point,” said Postecoglou. “We’ve had to take knocks and overcome different challenges. The word I use with this team is battle-hardened. Because nothing has come easy for us.

“Going into a big game like Wednesday, they were ready. Whatever we say to them about the atmosphere and intensity - they were prepared for it.

“The preparation doesn’t come 45 minutes before the game. It’s from training and playing every week in that manner.”

Postecoglou found an appreciative audience immediately when his first Lennoxtown training session was shared by the club’s social media department this summer. His approach – “get it into your heads, we don’t stop” – spoke of a philosophy in step with the club’s long-held principles.

If it generated quiet murmurs of approval it was always going to be tested in the more exacting demands of a league campaign. The most notable stat now is that it has taken his side to the top of the league and overcome a six-point lead that Rangers enjoyed just less than three weeks ago but of significance too is that his side have now scored more goals than any other team and conceded the fewest.

The only return that matters, of course, is silverware. On that front he already has the first trophy of the season banked but there is another aspect to success that Postecoglou strives for.

“I want to do what I’ve always done in my career and that’s create a football team that people talk about,” he said. “That’s always my end goal. Within that, you have to have success. There’s no point in painting a nice picture if no-one likes it - or you can’t sell it. It’s about creating a team here that everyone talks about.

“Because that’s my goal, it's never ending. There’s always another layer to it. I want people talking about the football we play. I want people talking about this Celtic team - not just in Scotland but beyond this country.

“We have to win trophies and be successful within that context. But my drive every day is to create a team people talk about in a positive way due to the football we play. That’s the biggest ambition I have.

“Progression is a never ending thing for me. Are we better than what we were a few months ago in terms of how we’re playing? I think we are.

“And that gives me and the players encouragement that we can be further ahead in the next two or three months.”

Certainly, there are indications that his side will be stronger by virtue of the players who are yet to return. Having been denied a fully fit and available squad at any point so far this term Postecoglou has Tom Rogic back today from international duty while the influential Kyogo Furuhashi and Christopher Jullien are also still to return to fitness alongside David Turnbull.

That may create questions too around a favoured starting line-up but what the Celtic manager is unambiguous about is that this is not the time to assess his season.

“We can measure the progress at the end of the year,” he said. “People will then see pretty clearly if we’ve been successful or not. What I do have to say is that I’m super proud of how the players and staff have embraced the challenge.

“Because there’s no doubt that it was never going to be an easy or simple fix. It was always going to take a great deal of hard work, dedication, sacrifice and belief - even just to get us into the position we are right now. My responsibility is now to push them on to the levels I know we can get to.”

Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou says discussions are ongoing with loanees Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota as the current cinch Premiership leaders look to secure the duo on permanent contracts.

Defender Carter-Vickers and forward Jota joined Celtic on loan from Tottenham Hostpur and Benfica respectively, with an option-to-buy clause inserted in the deals. However, neither player has committed fully to Celtic as of yet.

Both Carter-Vickers and Jota have become key men for Celtic under manager Ange Postecoglou, with little doubt that the Australian coach would like to keep them beyond this summer.

Asked if deals for them were any closer, Postecoglou responded: “If I say we’re closer, it’s as if something’s happened. Those discussions will be taking place over the course of the next period.

“Michael [Nicholson, chief executive] is at the forefront of that with the players themselves. It will take care of itself.”

Carter-Vickers and Jota played in Wednesday’s 3-0 home triumph over Rangers, which sent Celtic top of the table by a point, but Postecoglou doesn’t think the incredible atmosphere, nor the emotional post-match celebrations, will have much sway in whether definitive transfers are done for the players.

“Experiences like Wednesday will help but we all live in a romanticised version of life,” said Postecoglou, speaking ahead of Sunday’s league match against Motherwell at Fir Park.

“But it usually comes down to what drives the individual. These things are great but then finances come into it, other factors can influence the decision.

“I’m not going to try and convince anyone to stay. If you don’t understand how special it is to be a part of this place, nothing I’m going to say will change that.

“I know Cam and Jota love representing this football club and what it’s all about. They’re contributing right now and that’s all I need to see.

“They’re enjoying it. But it could be others. People are talking about new signings but we might lose a couple because we’re going so well.

“That’s part of football. I won’t lose so much sleep over it. While they’re under my charge, I’ll just get them to be the best they can be.”

I think what a lot of Ange fans from before he came here didn't quite grasp was that many celtic fans that didn't think he would make anything like the impact he has were basing much of that pessimism on the fact no one expected him to get the backing in the recruitment department he has actually received. I certainly wasn't expecting him to get the tools he needed to do a job this season.

I actually find that he was seemingly able to convince the board to back him with 17 players more impressive than what he has done on the pitch so far. And after Wednesday that is saying something.

Ange would not have come if he didn’t have control over the roster. Because he targets specific players, and more so people, to fit his system. It’s imperative to his success.

Yet he didn't have control when he came, we know this due to his numerous pointed digs during interviews about transfers not happening quickly enough in his first months.

That's a distinct possibility, but it's still just speculation. We don't actually know if that is why he isn't here any more. With regards recruitment I would expect he was working to instruction from the board, or from guidance from his predecessor, as that is the way things typically happened here for years under Lawwell.

There were also at least a few different radio interviews where he said he had failed, as he had clearly not made his case strongly enough to the board about new recruits being required. That certainly implies there was a shift in their attitude at some point, and not that he had their full backing from the off.

It was a worry at first as most of us had no clue who this man was. It was like Celtic had just plucked a name out of a hat because they couldn't/wouldn't take on anyone considered big enough to take the team forward. We all raised our eyes heavenwards! Our club has a reputation for penny pinching and biscuit tin mentality. They were continually selling the family silver and bringing lesser players in. We were coming to expect this from them and we still are a selling club as we will all find out in a season or two. They gave Lennon the job in the showers fgs! None of us could have known what this man would bring. With all due respect to the Aussie guys we needed to see for ourselves. Ange has won us all over. He's a real man in a mans world and is no one's yes man. He has the utmost respect of the team and fans alike and his leadership/success will be legendary at this club.
