He desperately needs 2 new FBs and a CB. Ange also needs to tweak his defensive set up and be a little more pragmatic. It's not realistic to expect to score 4 goals a game.

Once that window shuts, he needs his own assistant and fitness guys in. Something ain't right. Consistently look fatigued around the 60min mark.

But positives are there no doubt.

The thing worth remembering is that Ange's system has been employed elsewhere to very good effect. We all know about the unique challenges of managing Celtic, but what I mean is, if Ange's teams were so easily exposed by a simple ball over the top, he never would have had the success that he did. Because playing a long ball and having someone run onto it is one of the easiest things to execute at any level of football. Australian and Japanese sides can do it all day long and undoubtedly would have tried against his inverted wingbacks. I think that as the players get used to the system, know where they should be when, understand when to press, when to take risks and when to recycle the ball, etc. those countering opportunities should be greatly reduced.

Ange said himself after the match that he wasn't happy with how open we were and that that's not how he wants us to play. So it's not like he's saying, "* it, don't bother defending". The main issue was that we lost complete control of the match, especially in the second half, and this has been the issue in all matches so far. I don't think it was playing it out from the back that was the problem either; it was that Hart started hoofing it because none of the defenders were showing for the ball, so it kept coming straight back at us. Fitness seems to be an issue at the moment, as it's usually about midway through the second half when we're losing control of games, along with a hastenly constructed backline, who aren't used to playing together yet, let alone with Hart.

I also think we may have had an insight last night into why Ange has been reluctant to make changes, even when the game has been seemingly crying out for them. Up 3-1 and he brings 3 players on who all really should have had an impact on that game, yet apart from Christie's goal, showed zero urgency and essentially offered nothing. Rogic man, ffs.

We were so slow as well, after Abada and Kyogo came off. More quality and physicality throughout the squad is definitely needed.

Yeah that’s a possibility but we have got £18m in sales and spent around £13m whilst also removing loan players therefore the wage bill will be reduced a bit also with ntcham and brown leaving.

    Bolingoli
    Barkas
    Edouard
    Christie

for me will all be moved on before the window closes that generates you a bit more income and brings wage bill down with that we need.

    2 right backs
    1 left back
    1 centre back
    1 winger
    1 striker

    at a bare minimum!

Exactly! Not the first time other teams will look to go long to overcome and that’s why he employs a sweeper keeper and wants CB that sits and covers in need with a DM dropping in when they do.

First goal had both CB ball watching as a striker ran between them and second one gets closed down if Bitton isn’t dribbling to high and left and sits and plays a forward pass instead.

Players will gradually run games out better as they get more used to style of play and full fitness meaning more movement to present in midfield and receive a pass for longer as well.

The win will start to give the players some confidence and now need to start to string some results together.

Sweeper keepers have pace and anticipate the need to run out. I don't think Hart is the man for that. At the moment, going 3 at the back with an actual sweeper (Welsh) may be sensible.

Won’t happen I’m pretty sure and think you’ll see Hart play quite high off his line more and more.

I'm impressed. By the Celtic fans.

In spite of the bipolar contradictory comments, you boys worked out he can't coach defense in just..... what 4.. competitive matches

Unless you get some quality defenders (so whats the point of the manager then?) you'll be enjoying a season of heart in mouth every time the opposition attacks.

You will not be bored.....one way or the other

Like an old race horse. Gets stiff sitting around the field. Get him opened up a few times and those joints get well oiled and will look close to its former glory. Hart will be the same.

A plethora of Japanese and Australian journalists stated defence has always been his downfall.

One even went as far to say “Even Ange wouldn’t defend his defence!”

That, alongside the on-field evidence, is enough to justify people worrying.

Not really contradictory though is it? Ange clearly doesn't put a great emphasis on defending with this system, we are all ready seeing evidence of this with how much we are conceding and the type of goals we are conceding.

However it is being made worse by the * poor quality of our back four.

Oh no, don't get me wrong. By contradictions, I meant some of the earlier comments "We need to give him time...but he needs results fast"

Been following him for a decade. His defensive coaching is poor, always has been. Seen it in many teams: he needs a defensive assistant coach. In a few months Van Marwijk and Van Bommel was able to better organize Australian defense better than he could in 5 years.

That is unfortunately the reality of managing Celtic or the huns in Scotland. It's a results game up here, if we get to January and are a wee bit behind the huns the pressure and criticism will be like nothing he's ever felt.

Where would we be as a forum without this recent influx of Australian and Far Eastern * football analysts to give us their measured and carefully considered opinions ?

    ….. I shudder to think !
