I would like to hypothesize further and say that this is a downsizing in the process of last few years to even the odds with them, to increase the competitiveness of the league. It's something Lawwell and King had talked about indirectly in the past and I believe this is what's going on.

Why downsize though when we aren’t in debt?

Must admit, if AP is one to not take any * then the decision to sign Griffiths back up is surprising. Surprised me when it was announced.

It also highlights to me that the purse strings are still as tight as ever despite the work we need done.

Whilst Desmond flies into Glasgow Airport today on a $56m jet. That * needs to go.

I don’t think it’s surprising, he’ll be thinking I’m the man who can definitely sort him and I’ll reap the benefits of that decision.

Would imagine Ange said clean slate for everyone. Think that’s fair, think he has to decide on players ability and personality, but Griff looks to have flung that back in his face already in a particularly sleazy way.

I think it's to even the league up to make it more competitive. Theoretically we could run away with the league for the next 10 years if we invest the money we supposedly have in reserve...but that doesn't sell to tv companies.

But the sky deal runs till 2025 and it pays us less than champions league group stages

    Meh.

For me Griffiths has had enough opportunity. I can see why he'd do it. I suppose coming in the door he's obviously going to take him at face value and not on past issues.

As a fan I'd have him punted.

I can definitely see Ange having that line of thinking.

I was behind the contract decision but I’m disgusted I think that because it shows the level we’re at.

Are we really moaning about Ange not predicting that Griffiths would chat up a 16yo?

go to the Leigh Griffiths thread. It appears he’s attempting to get naughty with a 16 year old on the sly.

One of the major concerns I had about Ange was his knowledge of players in the UK + Europe. Let's face it, once he left the Australia job (4.5 years ago) and moved to Japan, he had no real reason to monitor players outside Australia and Asia.

Shaw was already signed and Urhoghide was in progress. I honestly can't believe that Ange knew much about Hickey or the Swedish guy we are supposedly interested in.

He obviously knows Ryan (although that doesn't look like it'll happen) and Mooy but just paper talk on that to date.

There seems to be a belief that adopting Ange's system of play will fix everything irrespective of the actual ability of the players.

My concern is that the players he's looking at are ones that were already on Lawwell's/Kennedy/Strachan's list - i.e. cheap options.

I don't blame Ange for this but I hope he quickly uses his own contacts in football to get information about players and doesn't rely on the old regime.

It will be Jay Lefevre’s list. Not the coaching staffs.

Well I get that but given the circumstances it makes sense to give him a deal. He's been making the right noises and training in the off season. I'm sure he did to Ange about getting his act together.

    * dumbass though

Aye can't disagree that this should be it for him. Doubt it will be though

Although in saying that if he bangs in 20+ goals this season noone will care. Can't see it though
