I know it's a massive risk and it would probably put a lot of fans at ease if he had shown his mettle in Europe first but everyone who knows about him seems so confident. I am surprised that the Expat Celtic fans are so positive compared to the ones online. Obviously you have read through so many reports and heard random Aussies talk him up and it still hasn't persuaded you which is fair enough because its so far away from Celtic. So there's not much point because he would never be accepted in many places until he proves himself. Japan would of no doubt been similar as Graham Arnold had failed there and Australian coaches didn't have a good reputation in Japan until Ange changed the perception. I just wanted to say the win percentage isn't great because the teams are more evenly matched in player quality.
On a personal note, I know I sound like another arrogant nationalistic Aussie but if Celtic is in need of a shake up and kick up the *, I really believe Ange is the man. I've seen him improve so many players and single handedly improve a whole nation. I think being afforded the resources and quality of player at Celtic he can do amazing things.
I know nothing will bring you around but hopefully all the positive things you hear/read gives you a slight glimmer of optimism.

I like Sutton but he got on my nerves last year.

One of the worst was after the home game v Sparta where he went way over the top about Moi having a peek at his phone. It was a pure deflection tactic. Said hardly anything about Lennon, beyond a few bland general remarks about it being an embarrassing defeat.

Can you imagine what he would have said if Deila had been hammered 4-1 at home by a Sparta reserve team.

The stick Deila got from Sutton was embarrassing at times. I remember he slaughtered the board after the Maribor defeat, but then completely changed his tune after it and went for Deila. As most have said, compare it with his buddy Lennon, it didn’t even scratch the surface.

Hope so. Would be delighted if we got Clarke instead of Angie.

It would definitely be a safer option. Why it would be safer is not immediately clear though.

Manager with absolutely no honours to his name v a manager with league titles wherever he goes and managed at a WC.

Why would Clarke be a better option?

To be honest, whilst I'd take Clarke over Ange, I wouldn't be looking forward to our football.

Sure, we'd definitely do better against the huns and in europe, and that's probably all we need, but going away to any other spfl team that isnt the huns or hibs would be a nightmare.

Just wish we'd hurry up an announce someone, S*n said on Saturday he was to be announced within the next 72 hours, so they've got another prediction wrong.

Knows the market, knows the game here. Probably more equipped to hit the ground running.

Doesn't mean squat though. Big Ange it is.

I think you answered it by saying safer option.

This coming season will be massive too. If they qualify for the champions league and win the league meaning they automatically qualify for the following year champions league, they might be difficult to reel in. Them * wont sit on their laurels stockpilling the dough.

I dont want to be sitting here in 3 or 4 months time with that looking a reality.
Thats why i would choose the safer hands of clarke.

That said i hope Ang will hit the ground running, but by * we wont do him any favours, with time against us to bring 10 players in.

Ange is being dealt a dodgy hand. He has an opportunity to shine on the world stage but is getting a team that needs a ton of work & a board that is difficult to work with.
I do wish him well & hope that he grasps the opportunity & becomes the next Marcelo Bielsa.

Pretty sad to see Muscat mentioned. Despite the respect I have for Ange, I and I'd suggest the majority of other Australian football fans hate Muscat. The * was a leg-breaking * who should've been banned long ago. The only positives, if I had to be generous, was that he had grit and could actually read the game.

Not that it's relevant but we all forgetting that Clarke had stated, quite simply, he's no interest in managing celtic given what the job entail and the effect it would have on his life?

That * seems to get forgotten a lot, just like McGinn who had said, he chose villa because he was promised more time by Bruce.

But here we are, getting in ange and none the above really * matters

The guy was a thug, plain and simple. It's hard to judge, but the only all-time list that Muscat belongs on is a list of those who have contributed or straight out ended or curtailing more careers than any one else. Dirty, dirty player. Utter scumbag. I really truly hope that these rumours are exactly that and nothing more.

Hello again from Melbourne. I have really been interested and intrigued at times reading the varying comments and opinions of Celtic fans on this forum. I come away with the belief that your love for the club is a generational thing, it's been in your blood since the days of your grandfathers and even beyond. I commend you. That's how it should be in my opinion.

That is how I feel about South Melbourne FC and my father before me did also, and my relatives to boot. I even played for them at U16 level and and was picked for the Reserves. My coach was also a Scot, Bill Curran. Ange Postecoglou knows him very well.

So there is a commonality to begin with in the way Celtic play football and the way South Melbourne played football, even under Ferenc Puskas. Keep the ball down, play attacking , attractive football and give the customers joy in the terraces. At the end of a hard working week Greek migrants, and later others who were attracted to this football, looked forward to going to see their team play. Ange Postecoglou has played football for South Melbourne since the age of ten, to the point where he grew up to play in the first team. He won honours as a player, then as captain, also played for Australia at different levels, and later due to injury, retired. He was soon to then be a success as coach of the team also after serving for a time as assistant coach.

So I believe I can relate to how Celtic fans feel, those in Scotland and especially in Glasgow. Most of you would have Irish roots I would guess as well. As migrants, finding work in the shipyards and the docks and elsewhere would have been part of making a life in a new land for many and Celtic FC would become representative of a living, breathing and aspiring community, let alone those Scots without Irish roots who also love the club with the same passion.

Many comments I have read seem to denigrate the chance to have Postecoglou as coach. Others welcome a chance to bring in some change by having him as coach. Others have accused the board of being small minded and miserly in its attitude in helping Celtic achieve success, especially in its 'poor' choice of who would be the next coach. The Eddie Howe saga is now over - he chose not to take the position. European coaches like Lucien Favre and Ernesto Valverde may have been approached, we do not know. Postecoglou was approached and he has accepted the position. Enjoy the ride :)

Enjoy your Scottish summer and do no be glum. Better days are ahead.

Hi Zander,. I agree, big Ange it is.

Actually Ange may have more in common with Celtic than you may think.

His family moved from Athens to come to Melbourne to start a new life when Ange was six years old. I have been told he is a Panathinaikos supporter. This team also wears green and white and have a three leaf clover as their emblem badge, similar to the Celtic FC shamrock.

Talking of Scottish kilts. Wearing a kilt is nothing new to young boys of Greek heritage. I also wore one on special days to commemorate Greek national Days in the community. Ange Postecoglou would have done the same. It is what mothers of Greek heritage, proudly sew and make for their sons to wear and take photos of. It is the dress uniform of the Evzones Regiment, the crack mountain troops of the Greek Army. It is the male national costume of Greece. This 'kilt' is called a 'foustanela' and is part of the specific uniform. The Parliamentary Ceremonial Guard stationed at the Tomb Of the Unknown Soldier 24 hours a day in Athens wear this uniform, with a summer and winter variant.

We learn something every day. Have a great week.

Clarke finishing 3rd with Killie trumps anything Angie has done imo, especially since they were in relegation play offs the season before. He also has the huns' number, he has a good record against them, and that's with killie.
He done ok with West brom too , now has Scotland in first tournament in 20 odd years.
I'd defo feel better with Clarke in charge.

    Agreed.

Taking a massive gamble this of all seasons is madness. The squad is in desperate need of investment, pre-season is around the corner, and we decide it´s a great idea taking a punt on a manager who´s never managed in Europe? Yeah right. And of top of that, win the league = guaranteed CL.

The shambles that´s been going on for the past year (this includes not getting rid of Lennon) clearly shows that the people in charge are totally inept to be in position. In fact, it´s negligence on an industrial scale.
