Tbf to him, it's always been said, even before he came to us, that his teams don't really come into their own until his 2nd season. Next season will be a better time for him to be judged down there.

They are probably about where they should be. I’m not disputing that. That comes from a very good start. Their form since roughly the turn of the year would have them below where they are however, and questions are starting to be asked of him. They have thrown in some strange performances where they have been thrashed. Their squad is probably on par with Villa, who look like they will pip them for 4th. As I say, he has credit in the bank still. At the start of next season, their form will need to be like the start of the season rather than recent, or he will be under pressure.

I agree that quality signings are what’s needed. I’d be amazed if Spurs give him the funds required though.

Their squad may be on par with villa but at the same time Emery has now had the best part of almost 2 seasons to drill his squad. Whilst has had less than half the amount of time and all whilst losing Kane.

So far the narrative down there around Ange is weird to me.

So far they look like they will finish higher than last season, scoring around the the totals they usually do when Kane was around and still have potential of conceding less than they did last season as well. Yet they still talk about him as if he's just some random Aussie coming in and cos playing as a EPL manager.

I fully expect Levy will never release the funds they could to improve the squad, in a lot of ways I guess he's the EPL Lawwell.

But he shouldn't need £100s of Millions to find three key players and then maybe some clever squad additions on top

The fans are turning on him. I still think he's done an OK job considering they sold Kane. He would go to a club down south with the equivalent of Lawell in charge though

Had a horrible spell of injuries for 3-4 months losing his best players and playing young lads. To be in the position they're in no spurs fan should be moaning considering how poorly they have been in recent seasons

I don’t think Kane would have suited Postecoglou’s system to be honest. I said that when he went there and selling him was the best thing to do.

Most of the comments I've seen from Spurs fans are happy with him. If they were offered 5th before the season started they would have been delighted.

I do read concerns about players. Maddison hasn't looked half the player since coming back after injury.

My mates a spur ... He says he's got to Xmas. Because teams are just "walking through" them.

I explained to him that Ange currently doesn't have the personnel to match his philosophy, and that it WILL work, as it was doing in the beginning, proper investment needed, something he hasn't gotten yet.

But more than a few Spurs fans are whipping out the "not premier league standard" mantra. They begged for attacking football, now moaning that want a pragmatist.

It's quite hard to understand EPL supporters to be honest.
They all want the moon on a silver platter, with most of them completely blinkered to realities.

Unless serious investment is made, they're not sniffing a title challenge, Ange or no Ange.

Like most championships, the team with superior players wins it, Spurs are exactly where they should be in the table with the squad available to them, probably doing a * of alot better than they should be given the injury problems and lack of real investment they saw.

Spurs fans are some of the most deluded. Some understand that they are not a huge powerhouse but many think that they should be challenging the title every season but in my lifetime they never have. They have come 2nd but no actual challenge. They have punched above their weight for donkeys with several managers only taking them so high. Pochetinho gave them the image of a big club but they aren't.

If he gets them 5th and they don't want to continue with him then they are * idiots. Chopping and changing your manager has proven not to work as teams can't gel.

Apart from that last sentence, I can't agree with this. Spurs are a big club. They have everything a big club should have. It's almost a meme in England how they punch under their weight given the size of the club, not above it.

I agree with that last sentence that 5th is OK this season (under the circumstances) and that they'd be crazy not to stick with Ange. But make no mistake, Spurs fans are right to expect better than 5th for a club their size and 5th won't be acceptable next season. Personally, I'm confident Ange will deliver better than 5th next season if he's backed in the summer.

I know I say this a lot; but this really does underline what an achievement it was for Rodgers to get 5th twice with Leicester, who are a much smaller club.

I think they're where they should be it was never going to happen over night and Emery has been at Villa a couple of years now getting his own people in both on the park and behind the scenes.

He will need to be backed in the summer though if he's going to have success next season

He needs time and proper backing, unfortunately for him he's at Spurs.

I think Rodgers coming 5th twice is only downplayed because they had a bit of a collapse at the end of the season twice to drop out top 4. In addition, if they hadn’t won the league in that freak season it would be seen as a bigger achievement and winning the FA cup would be heralded more.

On Ange at Spurs if he comes 5th it’s been a good year for them, whether their fans believe it or not. They are probably about the 5th or 6th biggest club at the moment so he will have returned them to where they should be.

The issue for them unless they sell some players is the financial fair play stuff.

Although they sold Kane they spent a lot of money last year backing Ange and he will need to the same sort of investment again. He probably has most of the core of a top. 4 challenging team but lacks depth. They could also do with a proper centre forward for Ange’s system.

At the end of the day if he finishes fifth to me he’s done a solid job, shouldn’t be losing his job for that so can’t be seen as a disaster.

Let's see how they back him in the summer.
If they do I think he'll do well but not top 4 again.
I see Man Utd and Chelsea stepping up also.
You need to be able to defend well in the epl and that'll be the downfall for top 4.

Genuinely thought he'd be binned by the super star egos not playing for him but I think he's done well.

They shouldn't though. Man Utd, Man City(now), Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea are all bigger teams than them. Maybe Newcastle as well.

Think their fans need to accept that or they'll be in a constant state of dissapointment. They should just enjoy the football being played and the fact they're challenging for Europe, for now.

Spurs have a right to expect to finish higher than 5th?

Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool are the clear top three sides at the moment.

Man Utd and Chelsea both expect to be near top of the league given the size of their clubs and how much money they spend. They are both regarded as part of the big four of the premier league.

Spurs might dip in and out of the top four when they have a good season and others have an off season, but they aren't a club I would expect to be in the top four.

I think he's done well, but I don't think his debut season has gone as brilliantly as some on here think tbh.

The early cup exits were really, really poor too.

His start is probably saving him because it was an incredibly good run they were on. But I haven't seen them get any results they shouldn't be getting. Wins against Bournemouth, Everton, Burnley etc are all well and good. Still to see any big, breakthrough games from his Spurs team.

    Big summer ahead.

I almost added that it's hard for me to see how he breaks into that top 3. I can definitely see your point there: they are 3 of the best teams in Europe. Still, I think 4th should be the minimum target for a club like Spurs and that Ange is capable of getting them there.

It's been a very mixed season. Before the league got underway, a 5th place finish would have been a pretty good one. However expectations change, and with Chelsea, Man Utd and Newcastle all dropping off massively this year, it's still a decent finish but nothing spectacular.

They had an unbelievable first 10 games or so, but since then it's been pretty mediocre. And that's in results and performances. Last 25 league games they've taken less points than Bournemouth, and the top 4. Scored 49 goals, which is less than Newcastle, Chelsea and the top 3. Conceded more than the likes of Fulham and Brighton.

In that time they've picked up 40 points and have a goal difference of +5. Man Utd have picked up 39 points with a goal difference of +3. And everyone is saying what a disaster of a season Utd are having and their manager is a cert to get sacked.

Of course he'll get more time because a 5th place finish is respectable and he needs the chance to bring in more of his style of players. But there's no denying that the "we never stop" Angeball football has disappeared since November time.

I love his ideas of the game, but I do think he'll need to be more willing to tweak it slightly in that league.
