It's far too early to tell who is the better manager. He hasn't yet matched Rodgers' achievements yet. I hope he does. I find the whole conversation a bit odd anyway: why not just enjoy the fact that they're both incredible managers who managed Celtic?

I'd say he has, hes done a great job in 3 different Leagues/countries and at a National team playing the best football any of these Leagues have probably seen in decades if not ever and had great success with about 6/7 different teams.

Thats not easy to do unless you are a sensational manager.

Some managers can do alright at one team or two say De Boer, Van Bronkhorst even probably Ten Hag, That Portuguese * who managed Chlesea and Spurs from Porto only done well at Porto. Theres guys seen as good managers who really only ever done well at one team then average at some others. For Ange to have done well at 6 teams or whatever thats just cause he is the real deal.

Theres probably only a handful of managers on the planet who could implement a style of play as quickly into a team and as good as Postecoglou and one that works so well and dominates against almost every team they play.

I'm not dissing Ange's achievements, I also think he's an amazing manager. I'm just pointing out that he has yet to match Rodgers' achievements in England or Scotland.

If Ange gets 5th with Spurs this year, it will rightly be seen as an incredible achievement; yet folk just dismiss Rodgers doing it with a much smaller club in Leicester. I hope he does go on to match or better what Rodgers achieved, which will be the case when he gets second or better in the EPL.

Tl;DR: I agree with you about Ange; but you're massively underestimating what Rodgers has done in the game.

I do think Rodgers is a good manager but he's just not near Ange for me.

The football we played under Ange with Mikey Johnston, Ajeti, Rogic, McCarthy, Turnbull, Montgomery, Bitton, Ralston, Soro, Welsh etc was tactically superb and completely unexpected and something you could have never hoped for.

Were playing really good stuff with guys who shouldn't have been on the bench or wide open football with a midfield who had no mobility and done really well.

Tactically and his football for me, Rodgers couldn't dream of it. The off the ball movement, the passing, the speed we took set pieces, the playing out from the back, never been coaching like it in Scottish football and might not be again.

Ange would still be wiping the floor with domestic football with the players we have now where as Rodgers is struggling, Rodgers can get good team and good player to play well. Ange is a total tactician, really only one tactic but it works that good the players even if they are * are elevated to playing better than they are.

Not that I want to get into an Ange vs Rodgers debate (although here I go!), but I think reducing how "good" a manager is to their achievements is a little too narrow a view. By that token Marcelo Bielsa wouldn't rate highly because he's not won much at all across his career in terms of trophies.

It obviously goes beyond that. For me what ILTC says here is true:

There's probably only a handful of managers on the planet who could implement a style of play as quickly into a team and as good as Postecoglou and one that works so well and dominates against almost every team they play.

I think it is genuinely astonishing how Ange does this, like as good as the very very best in the world. You get top-class coaches all the time using the excuse that they don't have the players to play their way. Ten Hag has been coming out with it, even Rodgers has intimated similar. Ange has never used that excuse, he's got his teams playing unbelievable football regardless of ability. That to me is a truly world-class manager. The fact he got teams in Oz, Japan and the Australian national team playing this way proves that - and on that point, for me the achievements of winning the leagues in those salary-capped countries playing the football he did is actually as big an achievement as anything else. I think loads of "elite" managers would struggle big time to do this.

Thats what I think, if you give Ange any team basically that team are far better than they were.

Ange would have Beale's hun team top of the League slaughtering teams or Aberdeen in 3rd massively better than Hibs and Hearts and whoever.

I feel like Ange's style of play just works that well that whoever the team are or the players are they're better than pretty much any other manager could hope for. Fast players out wide, everyone taught well where to position themselves and the runs to make, the inverted full-backs, the ball kept on the ground and moved passed vertically on the floor quick - it all just works really well that even poor players look decent and players enjoy playing that free of football and buy into it because it works that well.

Could probably say under Ange 70% of the success is purely the tactics and rules of Angeball and 30% down to the quality of player. Under almost any other managers barring a handful 70% is down to how good the players are and 30% their tactics.

Aye, he'd have an Aberdeen pummeling everyone outside of us and the huns, no doubt. It's everything that you say, but it's also his ability to communicate. I think he's one of the best communicators in the game - let's players know exactly what he wants from them, makes them feel like the best players in the world, and gives them complete and utter trust in the system.

Probably as it's not rocket science, you can read his tactics like a book.

Don't kick the ball long, pass the ball forward on the floor as quick as possible, run with the ball and dribble past players if you want, everyone pick up certain positions and then just relentlessly play like that every game for 90 minutes. When the balls coming down the left the right winger gets into the box and the right back stands at the edge of the box.

It's probably the most blatantly obvious tactics i've ever seen in football but it works and it's hard for teams to deal with it as it just swarms on them in attack. You can see how it always works, as theres not much to do to counter it like force them wide, don't let them cross, man mark them, it's all based on off the ball movement and running that it can never really be nullified.

@ILoveTheCeltic @PaddyJamieson I'm not saying that Ange isn't better than Rodgers; I'm saying it's far too early to tell. Also, while you are right that you can't reduce how good a manager to his achievements, I'm not actually doing that. I'm not saying that Ange hasn't achieved as much therefore he isn't better than Rodgers yet; I'm saying he hasn't achieved as much yet so he hasn't shown it yet. It's possibly a subtle distinction, but quite a meaningful one.

It's simply a fact that none of us really know yet what Ange's ceiling is and we won't know until we see how he does in the EPL over a number of years. We do already know that he's an extremely good coach; but we already know that about Rodgers too.

His team philosophy will only stretch so far, defensively clueless tbh.

    Really?

Their support love him to a man, he’s 5th despite an injury crisis, and they sold their best player in Kane and didn’t replace him.

    If anything he’s overachieving.

Lost quite a few winnable games tbh Wolves probably the worst of the lot.

    West Ham
    Villa

    Hammered at home by Chelsea.

He'll get at least 2 more windows, he's been very unlucky with injuries too..

I know injuries have been horrific but I think that 5 game winless streak had people thinking. Granted one of those games was a draw v city.

They actually almost salvaged something from being 4 down tonight, Spurs haven't seen anything like that in years..

If he's backed properly he'll have them pushing top 4

Not to mention that Brighton are a good team. It's not like he lost to Luton or Sheffield Utd or something. He's done really well down there so far.
